What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?

We usually build with React Native, using one codebase for iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. It suits apps built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. Sharing code reduces the amount you need to maintain across the platforms, while the screens still use each platform’s own interface components.

Native development is the option we choose when an app needs deep device features. The choice starts with what people need to do on their phones, including any device features the main task depends on. We discuss those needs as we agree the scope, before screen design begins.

A progressive web app is another option, particularly for a staff tool. It skips store review, although it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. That restriction is worth considering if reminders are central to the service.

Local

What Maryland businesses need from an app

Maryland’s economy includes retail services and health care. For shops with repeat customers, an app can give people a route back to reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a fast checkout and well-timed notifications. An appointment business has a different daily task: booking, reminders, payments and a staff view of the schedule.

Maryland manufacturers make electronics, computer equipment and chemicals. Where a maintenance or inspection team works away from the office, the app brief can centre on job forms, photos, signatures and location. Staff need to capture those details without a signal and sync them to the office when it returns, so the office has the job record to work from.

Rules

What a US app project has to handle

For state and local government organisations, the US rule for government websites and mobile apps specifies WCAG 2.1 Level AA. If you are commissioning an app for one of these organisations, we include that standard in the scope and set up the screen designs against it. Bring the requirement into the screen review, so it is part of the work from the start.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives us a place to keep decisions and feedback moving between calls.

  1. 01

    Design

We refine iOS and Android screens with your feedback before writing code. You review the flows people will use.

  2. 02

    Prototype

Put the clickable screens in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback can reveal changes while the screens are still less costly to change.

  3. 03

    Test

We send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You can try the app in use and share feedback.

  4. 04

    Prepare submission

If the app has a login, have a working demo account and live backend ready. Leave room for fixes and resubmission if the store review identifies a problem.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the details that will help us scope the app and its release.

  • Developer accountsRegister in the company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number, so start early.
  • SystemsNote your website, CRM, booking software or payment provider, whether each has an API and who has admin access.
  • Privacy policyHave one that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and app.
  • Play testingNew personal developer accounts need a closed test before production release.
  • Store accessHave access to your developer accounts ready; we handle listings, submission and review under them.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The scope determines how much design, build and testing work the project needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Integrations

A payment gateway, booking system or hardware connection adds setup, testing and failure handling.

  • Existing systems

A documented API for an existing backend reduces the work compared with building a backend and admin panel from scratch.

  • User content

Posts or other user-generated material need moderation features, including reporting, blocking and contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building an app

  • Wrapping the website

Give people a useful app experience beyond a repackaged site; an app shell risks store rejection.

  • Putting login first

Let people use an app without signing in when it has no significant account-based features.

  • Adding tracking late

Update the store privacy answers when an analytics or advertising SDK changes what the app collects. Google Play’s Data safety form must cover third-party SDK data too.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Maryland

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price. A major driver is offline work: showing previously loaded information takes less work than letting people edit records without signal and resolve conflicts when they sync. Live chat or tracking also adds backend work. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that can explain what will be built on the phone and behind it. An app commonly needs a backend for accounts and data, plus an admin panel where staff can edit content, look up customers and handle refunds. Ask how those parts will be scoped and handed over.

Can the app share data with my website?

Yes. We can build one backend to serve your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. That gives you a concrete point to discuss when reviewing the scope: which information each interface needs to show or update.

Who should own the app accounts and code?

Your business should hold the developer accounts, signing access and code. Keeping these in an agency’s or freelancer’s name can make the app difficult to move later. Ask how access and the code repository will be held before work begins, rather than leaving the decision until release.

What happens after the app launches?

Plan for ongoing support, including bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level; out-of-date apps can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Regular maintenance releases should be part of your plan.

How do payments work inside an app?

The checkout depends on what you sell. Digital content, features and subscriptions used in an app generally require the stores’ in-app billing systems. Physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment method, such as a card gateway. Tell us what customers will buy so the checkout is scoped accordingly.
