Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform or native app?
We usually build with React Native. It uses one codebase for iOS and Android, with native modules where a feature needs them. Its JavaScript or TypeScript code renders each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can be shared with a React web app. That makes it a practical choice when you want to cover both stores without maintaining separate app codebases.
Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch, but you have two codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another option: it draws its own interface and suits a heavily branded design when your team is prepared to work in Dart.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, although it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen.
Local
What Pennsylvania businesses need from an app
Philadelphia has commercial businesses alongside its educational and industrial organisations. For a shop or restaurant serving repeat customers there, an app brief can focus on reordering, loyalty and saved payment details. A fast checkout and well-timed notifications give customers a clear reason to use it again.
Manufacturers in places such as Pittsburgh and Erie, and logistics or warehousing businesses in the Lehigh Valley, may have staff completing work away from an office connection. An app for those teams can collect job forms, photos, signatures and location, then sync the records to the office when a signal returns. The brief should identify what staff need to capture on each job.
Rules
What a US app project has to handle
For a state or local government app, the US Title II rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We design the app’s screens and flows against that standard, so accessibility is part of the screen work from the outset. Your brief should identify the public services people need to use through the app.
For a US business taking payment for physical goods or services used outside the app, we set up a payment gateway such as Stripe. Digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app need in-app purchase; some storefronts also allow links to outside payment options.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter; the difference is 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback between calls, so work can move across that difference.

Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you before deciding what goes into the app.
- 02
Design
We design screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code.
- 03
Try the prototype
Put it in front of a few customers or staff and tell us where they get stuck. Changing a screen at this stage costs less than changing it after the build.
- 04
Test the build
Use the app on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. Your feedback comes from using the app on a device.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Check which type of Google Play developer account you plan to use, as new personal accounts have a closed-testing requirement before production release.
- Developer accountsRegister them in your company’s name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification, so start that step early.
- Connected systemsList your website, CRM, booking or payment systems, note which have an API and identify who holds admin access.
- Privacy policyHave a policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and inside the app.
- Review accessIf the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review.
- MeasurementDecide which screens and crashes you want to track in the first release, using tools such as Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of an app
The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the project needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Offline work
Showing previously loaded data is a smaller task than creating and editing records offline, then syncing them with conflict handling.
Screen variations
Custom animation, extra languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Plan useful app features beyond the existing site. Apple expects more than a repackaged website, and a wrapper risks rejection.
Leaving access with an agency
Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name so the app is easier to move later.
Adding an SDK without updating privacy answers
Check the data collected by analytics or advertising tools against Google Play’s Data safety form whenever you add them.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Pennsylvania
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. The work changes with the accounts and data your app needs, the admin actions staff need to perform, and whether the app can share a backend with your website. Define those pieces in the scope so a quote can separate the app, backend and admin work.
How should I choose an app development company?
Ask how the team decides what to build and which platform approach fits your requirements. Also ask how it will handle sign-up: Apple asks apps without significant account-based features to let people use them without logging in. A useful proposal should address those decisions in terms of your app.
Can you set up push notifications for my app?
Yes. Push notifications need a sending service such as Firebase Cloud Messaging, rules for who receives each message and when, and settings inside the app. Those settings let people switch off notification categories they do not want, so discuss the message types and audience rules in your brief.
What does an app with customer accounts need?
It needs a way for people to start deleting their account inside the app. Apple does not accept deactivation alone as a substitute. Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path for the account and associated data, plus a web link where people can request deletion.
Who owns the app after it is built?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keep those accounts available to the people responsible for the app in your business, so you retain control of the release.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Track how many people return, where they leave the main task and the crash-free rate to assess each release.
