Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform, native or web app?
We usually build with React Native. It uses a shared codebase for iOS and Android, while displaying each platform’s own interface components. Web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React website. Native modules handle features that need them. A fully native build is worth considering when your app needs deep device features.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface, which suits a custom-branded design, though your team needs to work in Dart. A progressive web app can suit a staff tool and skips store review. It does not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them, and on iPhone it must be added to the Home Screen before it can ask to send notifications. We help you weigh the interface and device features against the work involved.
Local
What Victoria’s organisations need from an app
Victoria has a large service economy. For an appointment business such as a clinic, salon or gym, an app can bring booking, reminders and payments into the same customer flow, with a staff view of the day’s schedule.
Agriculture is also a substantial part of Victoria’s economy. A maintenance or inspection team working on jobs needs forms, photos, signatures and location details available offline, with the information synced to the office when signal returns.
Victoria’s universities are another type of organisation to consider. Where people already use a university’s web platform frequently, an app can reuse its accounts and data instead of asking users to maintain a separate identity.
Rules
What an app project in Australia has to handle
Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 at Level AA for equal access to digital goods and services. We set up screen reviews against that target during design, so access is considered across the app’s flows before they are built.
Australian rules remove surcharging on debit, prepaid and credit card payments on the eftpos, Mastercard and Visa networks. For a checkout using those networks, we set it up without those surcharges. Tell us which payment provider you use when we discuss the checkout.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 4h30m behind Melbourne, changing to 5h30m during Melbourne’s daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback across that difference.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you.
- 02
Design
We refine iOS and Android screens with your feedback before writing code. You can check that the proposed flows match how people will use the app.
- 03
Try the prototype
Put it in front of a few customers or staff. Changes to a screen cost less at this stage than after it has been built.
- 04
Test the build
You receive builds on your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks, so you can give feedback from real use.
- 05
Prepare for release
We handle store listings, submission and release. If the app has a login, a working demo account and live backend are needed for Apple’s review; leave room for fixes and resubmission.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few decisions and details will make the first conversation more useful.
- List what people must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
- List the website, booking software, CRM and payment provider the app must use; note their APIs and who holds admin access.
- Start registering developer accounts in your company’s name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- For a new personal Google Play account, plan for the required closed test before production release.
- Decide what people can do before signing in, particularly if the app has no significant account-based features.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing of an app
The scope of the app and the systems behind it determine the work involved.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Existing systems
A documented backend API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel add a substantial build.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and additional backend work.
Interface requirements
Custom animation, languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with your app
Asking for notification permission on first launch
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. Android notifications stay off until the user allows them.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without updating store answers
Include data collected by third-party SDKs in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Making account deletion hard to find
Let users start deletion inside the app. For Google Play, also provide a web link for deletion requests; disabling an account alone is not enough for Apple.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Victoria
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. The work depends on features such as notifications, payments and subscriptions, and on the analytics and crash reporting needed in the first release. Notifications also need sending rules and user settings. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Which company should I choose for app development?
Choose a team whose working process gives you direct access to the people making the product. You should be able to discuss your requirements, review the screens and give feedback during the build. With us, you talk directly to the people who design and build your product.
Can the app use the same accounts as my website?
Yes. We build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. The admin side also gives staff a place to manage tasks such as editing content, looking up customers and blocking abusive accounts.
Will I own the app and its code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name as well. Accounts or repositories held by an agency or freelancer can make the app harder to move later.
Will you publish the app to the stores?
Yes. We handle the listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. For digital content and subscriptions used in the app, store billing rules shape the checkout; physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment method. Some storefronts or regions allow alternative options.
What support does the app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features after release. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air, while native code changes and new permissions need a store release.
