What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform or native development?

Cross-platform development shares most of the code between iOS and Android. It suits apps centred on accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content. We use React Native for this approach, with native modules where the app needs them. It renders each platform’s own interface components, and web developers can contribute to the codebase. If you already have a React web app, some logic can be shared.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface and suits a heavily branded design where you want screens to look identical across platforms; your team would need to work in Dart. Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits apps with deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work, but leaves you with separate codebases to build and maintain.

We help you choose by looking at what your app needs to do on the device. For most apps, we recommend React Native; when deep device features drive the product, we go native.

Market

What do app users in Australia expect?

Start with the task your customer or staff member needs to complete. A clinic, salon or gym might need booking, reminders and payment, with a staff view of the day’s schedule. A delivery, maintenance or inspection team may need forms, photos, signatures and location details that sync when a signal returns.

Checkout needs an early decision too. For digital content, features and subscriptions used inside the app, Apple requires in-app purchase and Google Play generally requires its billing system. Physical goods and services use another payment route. Some storefronts or regions allow alternatives, so we plan the payment flow around what you sell and where the app is offered.

Rules

What does an Australian app project need to handle?

If you provide health services, the Privacy Act applies regardless of turnover. Your app’s privacy policy needs to reflect the personal information it collects, so we include a policy link inside the app and in its store listing.

Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 at Level AA for digital goods and services. We include that target in the screen design and testing plan. Card payment surcharging has also been removed for the specified debit, prepaid and credit card networks, so we set up the relevant checkout without a card surcharge.

How it runs

How a mobile app development project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 2h30m behind Perth, so we use the shared board to keep decisions and feedback visible between conversations.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task you want a user to complete, along with the people who need to use the app.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check the flow from the first screen through the main task.

  3. 03

    Review the prototype

Put the clickable design in front of customers or staff. Their feedback gives us a chance to change a screen before it is built.

  4. 04

    Test the build

We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use the app yourself and share feedback from real use.

  5. 05

    Prepare submission

If the app has a login, we provide Apple with a working demo account and live backend. Keep room in the launch plan for a fix and resubmission if needed.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

These details give us a useful starting point for the scope and the first release.

  • List what a user must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
  • Name the website, CRM, booking or ERP systems and payment provider involved; note their APIs and who has admin access.
  • Check whether a new personal Google Play developer account will need closed testing before production release.
  • Choose which screens and drop-off points you want to measure, and plan crash reporting for the first release.
  • List the notifications you want to send, who should receive them and which categories users should be able to switch off.
  • If users create accounts, plan in-app deletion for both stores and a web deletion request link for Google Play.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of mobile app development?

The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the app needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Real-time features

Live tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Screen design

Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User-generated content

Reporting, blocking and filtering need to be built into apps that let people post content.

  • Existing systems

A documented backend API can reduce the work compared with building a backend and admin panel from scratch.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Plan a useful app experience beyond the existing site, since a repackaged website risks Apple rejecting the submission.

  • Putting sign-up before any value

Let people use features without logging in when the app does not have significant account-based features.

  • Asking for notification permission immediately

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Adding an analytics or advertising SDK late

Update Google Play’s Data safety answers to cover the data collected by that SDK.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Australia

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price. The scope of the app, the backend and admin tools, and any in-app purchases or subscriptions all affect the work. For example, staff may need tools to look up customers, issue refunds or block accounts. Once we agree the scope, we can prepare a quote.

How do I choose a mobile app development company?

Choose a team you can speak to directly about the product and the work. Ask who will design and build your app, and how you will raise questions as decisions come up. With us, you talk directly to the people who design and build your product.

Can the app share accounts and data with my website?

Yes. We build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools. That gives your customer accounts and data a shared home, so the app can be part of the same system your business already uses on the web.

Will you publish the app to the stores?

Yes. We handle the App Store and Google Play listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Your accounts remain the place where the app is submitted and released, so make access to them part of the launch preparation.

Who owns the app code and content?

You do. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control over those assets after the app is built, including if your plans for the product or the people maintaining it change.

What happens after the app launches?

We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Plan maintenance releases for Google Play’s Android API requirements. Review retention, drop-off in the main task and the crash-free rate to see how people are using each release.
