What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?

For an app built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical place to start. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. That gives you a common foundation to maintain while still using platform-specific features where the product calls for them.

A native build suits an app that depends on deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. It also means maintaining separate Swift and Kotlin codebases, so there is more platform-specific work to plan for as the product changes.

A progressive web app is another option, particularly for staff tools. It avoids store review, although it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to their Home Screen. Decide where people need to find the product and which device features they need before settling on the build.

Local

What South Australian businesses need from an app

Agriculture and manufacturing are prominent parts of the state's economy. For a business with staff working on jobs away from the office, an app needs practical tools: forms, photos, signatures and location on each job, with records synced when signal returns. Agree which information staff must still be able to capture without a connection before deciding how the screens should work.

Health care and social assistance are a major source of employment. A clinic with appointments needs booking, reminders and payments, alongside a staff view of the day's schedule. It also needs a way for staff to manage customer information without calling a developer each time: the app, its backend and an admin panel each have a job to do.

Rules

What an app project in Australia needs to handle

Checkout design depends on what you sell. We set up payment without a surcharge on debit, prepaid and credit card payments on the eftpos, Mastercard and Visa networks. For digital content, features and subscriptions used in an iPhone app, Apple requires in-app purchase; physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment method, such as a card gateway.

Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 Level AA as a minimum for digital goods and services. We plan the app screens against that recommendation and include accessibility checks in the build, so access is considered while the interface is being designed and tested.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 4 hours behind Adelaide, and 5 hours behind during daylight saving. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see what is being worked on between calls.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the task you want people to complete and the systems the app needs to work with.

  2. 02

    Design

We refine the iOS and Android screens with your feedback before writing code. Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff and tell us where they get stuck.

  3. 03

    Build and test

We give you test builds for your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use them in the situations the app is intended for and share what needs attention.

  4. 04

    Prepare for review

If the app has a login, have a working demo account ready and keep the backend live for submission. Leave room in your launch plan for fixes and resubmission.

  5. 05

    Submit

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You remain involved in the information needed for those listings.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

A few practical details help us discuss a useful first scope.

  • List the systems the app must connect to, whether each has an API, and who holds admin access.
  • Start your Apple and Google developer accounts in the company name. Organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • Prepare a privacy policy matching the data your app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and inside the app.
  • Identify the website and admin tools that need to share accounts or data with the app.
  • Note whether customers will create accounts, so account deletion can be included in the app.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and time of app development

The work grows with the screens, systems and rules the app needs to support.

  • User types

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Integrations

A payment gateway, booking system or scanner each adds setup, testing and handling for failures.

  • Interface

Custom animation, additional languages or tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Posts or other submissions need moderation tools, including reporting, filtering and blocking.

  • Backend

An existing system with a documented API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel add a substantial build.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with app development

  • Wrapping a website

An app shell around an existing site risks rejection. Give the app useful functions beyond the website itself.

  • Requiring sign-up too soon

Let people see useful parts of the app before asking for an account when significant account features are absent.

  • Asking for notifications at first launch

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.

  • Adding an analytics tool without updating the listing

Check that Google Play's Data safety answers include data collected by third-party SDKs.

Questions

Asked by businesses in South Australia

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The scope changes with offline work, notification rules and whether the app needs a shared backend. Showing previously loaded information offline is a smaller task than editing records offline and resolving sync conflicts; notification categories also need sending rules and user settings. Ask us for a quote once the scope is agreed.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that explains its proposed build in terms of your app's actual features. Ask how it would handle device-specific requirements and payments or subscriptions before agreeing the scope. We use native development when an app needs deep device features, and offer in-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

What is included in an app build?

The build can include a shared React Native codebase for iOS and Android, native modules where needed, and push notifications. Plan for measurement in the first release too: analytics and crash reporting show which screens people use, where they stop and which devices experience crashes.

Can the app use the same backend as our website?

Yes. An existing customer web platform can share accounts and data with an app when frequent use makes an app useful. Look at the actions people repeat on the website and bring those to the scope discussion; the app can then use the same backend instead of keeping a separate set of customer information.

Who owns the app and store accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Store publication is handled under your own developer accounts, including the listings, submission and review. Keep the account details available to the people in your organisation who will be responsible for the app after release.

What support is available after launch?

Ongoing support covers bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air, while native code changes and new permissions need a store release. Track returning users, drop-off in the main task and the crash-free rate to assess releases.
