Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native?
Cross-platform is a practical choice for an app built around accounts, bookings, forms, payments or content. React Native shares most of the code between iOS and Android while using each platform’s own interface components. It uses JavaScript or TypeScript, so web developers can contribute and some logic can be shared with a React website. We use React Native for many apps and add native modules where needed.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that should look identical on both platforms. Your team needs to be comfortable working in Dart. Native development in Swift and Kotlin fits deeper device features, heavy graphics or complex background work, but leaves you with separate codebases to build and maintain.
We help you choose by looking at what the app needs to do. Most apps suit React Native; we go native when the product needs deep device features.
Local
What New South Wales businesses need from an app
Service industries account for a large share of the state’s activity and employment. An appointment business such as a clinic, salon or gym needs customers to book and pay, reminders to go out, and staff to see the day’s schedule. A clear staff view gives the people delivering the service a way to use the same booking information as the customer.
Tourism is a substantial part of the state economy. Shops and restaurants serving repeat visitors need quick reordering, loyalty features, saved payment details and a fast checkout. For teams carrying out deliveries or maintenance jobs, an app needs forms, photos, signatures and location on each job, with records syncing to the office when a connection returns.
Rules
What an app project in Australia has to handle
Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 Level AA as a minimum for digital goods and services. That gives the screen design a practical target: we set up layouts with clear labels, readable text and usable controls, then review the designs against that target before development. Your feedback on the screens comes before code. This gives the team a chance to address access in the flows people will use to complete their tasks.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is behind Sydney, and the gap changes during daylight saving. The shared board keeps feedback and work visible across that gap.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals with you. The agreed scope gives the design and build work a shared starting point.
- 02
Design
Review the proposed screens and flows before code is written. Tell us where a task or screen needs to work differently for your users.
- 03
Build
We build the app and its backend. Where your website and admin tools need the same accounts and data, we can serve them from one backend.
- 04
Test
Try development builds on your own phone through TestFlight on iPhone or a Google Play testing track. Your feedback comes from using the app.
- 05
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You keep the accounts in your business’s name.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring enough detail to make the first discussion about the work your app must do.
- List the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Start your Apple and Google developer accounts in the company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
- List the website, booking system, CRM or payment provider involved, along with API and admin access details.
- Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data collected; the app and its Apple listing need links to it.
- Plan a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review if the app has a login.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of an app
The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the project needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when their data shares a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Screen variants
Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User-generated content
Moderation needs filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details to meet Apple’s requirements.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Putting accounts in someone else’s name
Keep developer accounts, signing access and the code repository in your business’s name so the app is easier to move.
Demanding sign-up too early
Let people explore without logging in when the app has no significant account-based features.
Asking for notifications at launch
Make the request when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.
Adding an SDK without updating privacy answers
Include data collected by third-party SDKs in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Questions

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Offline editing and syncing add more work than showing previously loaded data, while each integration needs setup, testing and failure handling. We start by learning your goals and agreeing the scope with you, so the work to be quoted is clear.
How do I choose an app development company?
Ask how the team will measure use and diagnose problems after release. Analytics and crash reporting belong in the first release: they show which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash. Retention and the crash-free rate give you more useful follow-up measures than downloads alone.
How are payments and subscriptions handled?
We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. The payment route depends on what you sell: digital content and subscriptions generally use the stores’ billing systems, while physical goods and services need another route, such as a card gateway. Some regions or storefronts allow alternatives.
Who owns the app and its code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives your business control over the assets if you decide to change who maintains the product. Keep your own access to those assets and make sure the people responsible for the app know where to find them.
What support is available after launch?
Launch is followed by ongoing support for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, so maintenance releases need planning. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air; native changes still need a store release.
Can you add push notifications?
Yes. We set up targeted push notifications, a sending service and rules for who receives each message and when. The app also needs settings where people can switch off categories they do not want. Agreeing those categories gives you a practical basis for deciding what each notification should do.
