Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?
Cross-platform is a practical starting point for apps built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. React Native shares most of the code across iOS and Android while using each platform’s own interface components. It is written in JavaScript or TypeScript, so web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React website. We generally recommend React Native for this kind of app.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs the same appearance on both platforms, though your team would need to work in Dart. Native development in Swift and Kotlin fits apps built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases. Bring your main user tasks to the first discussion, and we can assess which approach gives you the flexibility those tasks need.
Local
What Texas businesses need from an app
Texas has major industries in energy, agriculture, manufacturing and aerospace. A field team in one of those sectors could use an app to capture forms, photos, signatures and locations on each job, then sync the records to the office when a signal returns. Clinics, salons and gyms need a different flow: booking, reminders and payments for customers, with a staff view of the day’s schedule.
New businesses in Texas may be preparing a consumer product or marketplace for launch. Covering both app stores from a shared codebase gives them a way to reach users on each platform, while retention analytics show whether people return. An established business with frequent use of its web platform can also reuse existing accounts, data and backend when it adds an app.
Rules
What a United States app project has to handle
For a state or local government app, the ADA Title II rule requires the app to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We design the screens and test their layouts and navigation against that standard as part of the build, so accessibility is included in the work from the outset.
Checkout also needs a clear plan. US businesses can sign up to accept payments with Stripe. On Google Play, digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app require Play billing, while physical goods and services must not use it. We set up payments and subscriptions around what you sell.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We are a studio in India and work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m to 13h30m ahead of the mainland US in winter, and 1 hour less ahead during daylight saving time. The shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible between calls, so work can move across that gap.
- 01
Design
We design iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You review the flows your customers or staff will use.
- 02
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few real customers or staff. Their feedback helps us change screens before they are built, when changes are cheaper.
- 03
Test builds
We send a build to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You can try the app in real use and share feedback.
- 04
Submission
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You keep those accounts in your business’s control.
- 05
Review readiness
If your app has a login, provide a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review. Leave room in the launch plan for fixes and resubmission.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you already have, including the decisions you still need to make.
- The user tasks for the first release, in the order people will do them.
- Your website, booking, CRM, ERP and payment systems, plus API and admin-access details.
- A privacy policy that reflects what the app collects, for the listing and the app.
- Your Google Play account type; new personal accounts need a closed test before production release.
- An account-deletion flow inside the app if people can create accounts on iOS.
- A web deletion-request link as well as an in-app deletion path for Google Play.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of app development
The scope determines how much design, build and testing work the project needs.
Integrations
Payment gateways, maps, booking systems and hardware each need setup, testing and handling for failures.
Existing systems
A documented backend API reduces work; a new backend and admin panel can be as substantial as the app.
Interface
Custom animation, extra languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Posts from users need moderation tools, including filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details under Apple’s requirements.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping a website
Apple expects more from an app than a repackaged site. Plan useful app-specific tasks before submitting it.
Requiring an early login
Let people see value before asking them to sign up. Apple asks apps without significant account-based features to allow use without login.
Adding an SDK without updating privacy answers
Check the data collected by analytics and advertising SDKs, then include it in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Texas
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price: the scope determines the cost. Each type of user needs its own screens and permissions, while offline work ranges from showing previously loaded data to creating and editing records without signal and resolving conflicts when they sync. Agree those requirements before requesting a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that can explain how your app will use your existing data and how you will see where users struggle. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, and include analytics and crash reporting in the first release to show screen use, drop-off and device crashes.
What is included in the app build?
We build a React Native app for iOS and Android, adding native modules where needed. For push notifications, the work includes a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, and settings inside the app so people can switch off categories they do not want.
Who owns the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep your developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. Accounts or repositories held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name can make the app difficult to move if you change who maintains it.
What support is available after launch?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out through an over-the-air update; native code changes, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release. We can also review retention, task drop-off and crash-free rates.
Could a progressive web app be enough?
A progressive web app can suit a staff tool and skips store review. It does not appear in app stores unless packaged for them, though, and on iPhone it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to their Home Screen. Consider those limits alongside your staff’s tasks.
