Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform app, a native app or a web app?

A cross-platform app shares most of its code between iOS and Android. It suits work built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native: it renders the platforms’ own interface components, and web developers can contribute using JavaScript or TypeScript. Some logic can also be shared with a React website.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded app that needs screens to look identical on both platforms. Your team would need to be comfortable working in Dart. We go native when an app needs deep device features that call for platform-specific work.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. We help you choose a route around the features and flexibility you need.

Local

What New Mexico organisations need from an app

Mining and oil and gas businesses in New Mexico may have field teams carrying out inspections or maintenance. An app for those jobs needs forms, photos, signatures and location data that reach the office when a connection returns. Decide early how much offline work staff need: viewing the last loaded information is a smaller task than editing records and resolving conflicts when they sync.

Tourism is an important part of New Mexico’s economy. An appointment business serving visitors needs booking, reminders, payment and a staff view of the day’s schedule. A shop or restaurant serving repeat customers has a different task: make reordering and checkout quick, then use notifications at a useful point in the relationship.

Rules

What a United States app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the build needs to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA under the ADA Title II rule. We put that standard into the screen-design and development scope and plan checks against it as the app takes shape. Tell us at discovery if you are commissioning an app for a government organisation, so the requirement is considered before screen flows are agreed and carried through to testing.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of the mainland United States, so we keep decisions and feedback visible on the board across the time difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We use that conversation to agree what the app needs to do and what belongs in the scope.

  2. 02

    Design

Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff and bring us their feedback. A screen is less expensive to change before it has been built.

  3. 03

    Build and test

Try the app on your own phone during development. We share test builds through TestFlight on iPhone and Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks.

  4. 04

    Submit

We prepare the store listings and handle submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain access to the accounts used for release.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring what you have; we can discuss the gaps together.

  • Developer accountsRegister Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number, so start that process early.
  • TestersIf you have a new personal Google Play account, plan for its required closed test before production release.
  • SystemsList your website, CRM, booking or ERP software and payment provider. Note available APIs and who holds admin access.
  • Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data your app collects, for both the app and its store listing.
  • Demo accessIf the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for submission.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and time needed to build an app

The scope of the work determines the effort involved.

  • Existing backend

A documented API saves backend work; building data services and an admin panel from scratch adds a substantial part of the project.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Screen variations

Custom animation, extra languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing work across screens.

  • User content

Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building an app

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Give people a useful reason to install the app; a repackaged site risks rejection.

  • Asking for notifications at first launch

Request permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order.

  • Adding tracking tools without updating privacy answers

Include data collected by third-party SDKs in Google Play’s Data safety form.

  • Making account deletion hard to find

If people can create an account, provide an in-app deletion path. Google Play also requires a web link for deletion requests.

Questions

Asked by businesses in New Mexico

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The backend and staff admin panel, notification rules, and payment setup all affect the scope. Digital subscriptions need a different Google Play billing setup from physical goods or services. List the tasks your app and staff tools must handle so the work can be scoped.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a studio that can explain how it will assess the app after release. Ask how it will measure people returning, where they leave the main task and the crash-free rate. Those measures give you a more useful view of ongoing use than a download count alone.

What features can you include in the app?

We can include targeted push notifications, in-app purchases and subscriptions. The useful choice depends on what people need to do: a notification should have a reason to reach its recipient, while a subscription needs to be set up for both app stores.

Can the app use the same accounts as my website?

Yes. We build a shared backend that serves your app, website and admin tools. That gives each interface access to the same accounts and data. It is a useful route when customers already use your web platform frequently and you want to add an app for them.

Who owns the app and its accounts?

You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep your developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name as well. That puts the access needed to maintain or move the app with your organisation, instead of leaving it in an agency’s account.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can use an over-the-air tool, but native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
