Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?
Cross-platform development shares most of the code between iOS and Android. It suits apps built around accounts, bookings, forms, maps, payments and content. We usually use React Native, with native modules where a feature needs them. Its screens use each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can be shared with a React website.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look the same on both platforms. Your team would need to be willing to work in Dart. A native build is worth considering when the app needs deep device features.
A progressive web app is another route for a staff tool. It avoids store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask for notification permission only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. That trade-off is worth discussing before deciding what to build.
Local
What Kansas businesses need from an app
Kansas has aircraft manufacturing facilities in Wichita and Kansas City. For a manufacturer managing inspection or maintenance work, an app could give field staff forms, photos, signatures and job locations that sync to the office when signal returns. Agreeing how records are saved and synced is part of defining the work.
Kansas also produces crops including wheat, corn, sorghum and soybeans, and has a food-processing industry. A shop selling food to repeat customers could use an app for reordering, loyalty and saved payment details. The checkout needs to be quick, while notifications need to arrive at a useful point in the customer’s routine. A business offering appointments would need booking, reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule.
Rules
What a United States app project has to handle
For a state or local government app, the US accessibility rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That changes the screen design and the checks needed before release: we set up the app’s screens and flows against that standard and include accessibility checks in the work. Raise the requirement when you discuss scope, so it is considered across the app instead of being left until submission.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is ahead of mainland US time, and the gap changes with daylight saving. Shared boards give you a place to review work and leave feedback between calls.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main tasks your users need to complete so we can discuss what belongs in the release.
- 02
Design
We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before code is written. You can review the flow through the app and identify changes while it is still in design.
- 03
Test
During development, you receive builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use them as your customers or staff would, and share what needs attention.
- 04
Launch
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain those accounts, and we work with you on the information needed for the listings.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical details make the first discussion more useful.
- List what users must do in the first release, in the order they do it.
- Note the website, CRM, booking, ERP or payment systems involved, their APIs and who holds admin access.
- Start company developer accounts early; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification.
- For a new personal Google Play account, plan a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers before production release.
- If the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s submission review.
Cost & time
What affects app development cost and time
The scope of the screens, connections and content controls determines the work to design, build and test.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup, testing and failure handling.
Screen design
Custom animation, multiple languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Plan useful app features beyond the existing site, since a repackaged website risks Apple rejecting it.
Asking for notification permission on first launch
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without revisiting privacy answers: Update Google Play’s Data safety form to cover the SDK’s data collection.
Leaving account deletion out
If users can create accounts, provide an in-app deletion path and a web deletion-request link for Google Play.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Kansas
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. A major driver is whether an existing backend has a documented API or a new backend and admin panel must be built. Offline editing with later syncing also takes more work than showing previously loaded data. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Which app development company should I choose?
Choose a company that can explain what it will measure after release and how it will investigate problems. Ask about retention, where users leave the main task and crash-free rates. Tools such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics can show screen use and device crashes, giving you practical information for the next release.
Can my app use the same backend as my website?
Yes. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools. The admin panel gives staff somewhere to manage content, look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts without calling a developer. Discuss which of those tasks your staff need when agreeing the scope.
Who owns the app and its accounts?
You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name as well. That makes it easier to move the app later if you change who maintains it, rather than having access tied to an agency or freelancer.
What support does the app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level; an out-of-date app can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. We provide ongoing support after launch.
Can you add payments or subscriptions to the app?
Yes. We set up in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. The checkout needs to reflect what you sell: Google Play billing is required for digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app, but must not be used for physical goods or services such as groceries, transport or event tickets.
