Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform, native or web app?
React Native is our usual choice when you want an app on iOS and Android. It shares a codebase across the platforms, with native modules where a feature needs them. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that should look identical on both platforms. Your future development work would need to use Dart.
Native development suits apps that need deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. It gives you separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain. A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool and skips store review, although it needs packaging to appear in the stores. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after it has been added to the Home Screen. We learn what your users need and agree the scope with you before choosing the approach.
Local
What Arkansas organisations need from an app
Tourism is part of Arkansas's economy. If you run an appointment-based tourism service, an app brief could cover booking, reminders and payment, alongside a staff view of the day's schedule. That gives you a clear set of tasks to discuss before adding further screens.
Arkansas poultry producers with inspection teams could need forms that work offline, with photos, signatures and the location attached to each job. Records then need to sync to the office when a connection returns, so staff can work away from a signal.
Arkansas also supports public universities and colleges. An organisation with an existing web platform can plan an app around frequent use of that service, sharing its accounts and data with the website instead of asking users to maintain separate records.
Rules
What a United States app project has to handle
For a state or local government app, the accessibility requirement changes the screen design and review work. The app must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA under the ADA Title II rule. We set up the screen designs and flows with that standard in the project scope, then review the app against it as part of the work. Raise the requirement when we discuss the first release, so accessibility is included in the screens from the outset.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
Our studio is in India, and we work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of the mainland United States, so the board keeps decisions and feedback visible across the time difference.
- 01
Design
We design screens and flows for iOS and Android conventions. Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff, then tell us where they have trouble before the screens are built.
- 02
Test
We send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use the app for the tasks in the brief and share what needs changing.
- 03
Plan account deletion
If users can create accounts, we set up an in-app deletion path. Google Play also requires a web link for deletion requests and the associated data.
- 04
Submit
We handle listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. For an app with login, have a working demo account and live backend ready, and leave room for a fix and resubmission.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you know about the first release and the systems it needs to use.
- User tasksList what people must do, in the order they would do it.
- Existing systemsNote the website, CRM, booking software or payment provider, its API and who holds admin access.
- Developer accountsPlan to register them in your company's name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- Staff tasksList what staff need to edit, look up, refund or block in an admin panel.
- Shared dataNote which website accounts and records the app and admin tools should use.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The work grows with the flows, connections and design your app needs.
User types
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they use a shared backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup, testing and work to handle failures.
Screen design
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across the affected screens.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Asking for notifications immediately
Request permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.
Putting login before value
Let people use the app without signing in when it has no significant account-based features.
Adding an SDK without updating privacy answers
Include data collected by third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in Google Play's Data safety form.
Leaving access with an agency
Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business's name so the app is easier to move.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Arkansas
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The work depends on whether you have a documented backend API, how much offline editing and syncing you need, and whether the app includes purchases or subscriptions. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed, so it reflects what you want in the release.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that can explain how it will design, build and launch the app, and ask how your feedback enters the work. We handle those stages with the same team from start to finish. Ask to see the proposed scope before work begins, including what your staff will need to do.
What should the first release include?
Include the tasks users need to complete, plus analytics and crash reporting. Tools such as Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or Sentry show screen use, where people give up and which devices crash. If notifications support a useful task, we set up targeted push notifications as part of the app.
Who owns the app code and content?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control over those assets when you decide how the product should be maintained or developed. Discuss the handover of the code and content as part of the project scope so you know what you will receive.
What happens after the app launches?
Launch is followed by support for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. JavaScript and content fixes can use an over-the-air update, while native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
How do payments work inside the app?
The checkout depends on what you sell. Digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app generally use the stores' in-app purchase or billing systems. Physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment method, such as a card gateway. Some storefronts or regions allow outside payment options.
