Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?
For an app built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is often a practical choice. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. That gives you both platforms without maintaining a separate full app for each.
A native build suits an app that depends on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is more code to build and maintain: Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. Choose this route when those device capabilities are central to what people will do in the app.
A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It skips store review, although it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. Decide how staff will open the tool and whether store distribution and notifications are part of the job.
Local
What New Brunswick organisations need from an app
Tourism is part of New Brunswick’s working economy. A visitor-facing appointment business, for example, needs customers to book and pay, reminders to reach them, and a staff view of the day’s schedule. Those tasks give you a useful way to define the first screens: start with the booking and follow it through to the staff member who needs to see it.
Services, including government services and public administration, are also part of the region’s economy. An organisation planning an app should account for the staff side of the service as well as the phone screen: a backend holds accounts and data, while an admin panel lets staff edit content and look up customers without calling a developer. Agree who needs access before the screens are built.
Rules
What an app project in Canada has to handle
For private-sector commercial activity, PIPEDA sets federal rules for collecting, using and disclosing personal information. That affects the account and data flows you ask us to build. We set up the relevant account and data screens around the information your app collects and the choices it gives users.
Payment setup depends on what you sell. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. Stripe lists Canada as a country where businesses can sign up to accept payments. We set up the purchase or subscription flow for the product being sold.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. Across Canada, India is 9h to 12h30m ahead in winter; Atlantic Time moves 1 hour closer during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to review decisions and leave feedback between calls.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us agree the scope by identifying what people need the app to do.
- 02
Design
We design the iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You review the flows while changes are still on the screen.
- 03
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps you spot a screen that needs changing before it is built.
- 04
Build and measure
We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release. You can see which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash.
- 05
Launch
We handle the App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release. You review the listing details with us as the app is prepared for the stores.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the intended user task and any account details you already have.
- Write a short list of first-release tasks in the order people will do them.
- Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- For a new personal Google Play account, plan a closed test with at least 12 testers opted in for at least 14 days.
- Have a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires links in the listing and app.
- If the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review, with room for fixes and resubmission.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of an app
The work changes with the behaviour you expect from the app and the screens you need to support it.
Offline use
Showing previously loaded data takes less work than creating and editing records offline, then syncing them with conflict handling.
Interface design
Custom animation and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User-generated content
Filtering, reporting, blocking abusive users and publishing contact details add moderation work.
Notifications
A sending service, delivery rules and settings for switching categories off all need to be planned and built.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Define what people will use the installed app to do before choosing that approach.
Putting sign-up first
People can leave before seeing value. For an app without significant account-based features, let them use it without logging in.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without updating privacy answers: Check the data collected by third-party SDKs against Google Play’s Data safety form whenever the app changes.
Questions
Asked by businesses in New Brunswick
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. Separate customer, driver and staff roles add their own screens and permissions; live tracking or chat adds backend work; and an existing documented API can reduce what needs to be built from scratch. Agree those parts of the scope before asking for a quote.
How should I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that lets you speak directly to the people designing and building your product. Ask how feedback reaches them, who makes scope decisions and how you will review the work. With us, you talk directly to the people doing the design and development.
Can the app share data with my existing website?
Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. React Native is written in JavaScript or TypeScript, and some logic can also be shared with a React web app.
What should be included in an app with customer accounts?
Plan the account flows as well as the screens customers use after signing in. If an app allows account creation, Google Play requires an in-app path to delete the account and associated data, plus a web link where people can request deletion. Include both paths in the scope.
Who owns the developer accounts and code?
Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name so the app is easier to move later. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Confirm access and ownership before work begins, including who can reach the repository.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, so maintenance releases need attention. Review retention and where users drop out of the main task, alongside the crash-free rate, when deciding what to fix next.
