Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform, native or web app?
A cross-platform app suits many products built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments and content. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you both platforms to maintain from a shared starting point.
Native development fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or a new platform feature at launch. An iPhone app in Swift and an Android app in Kotlin give you separate platform codebases. You will need to build and maintain both, so identify the device features your product genuinely needs before choosing this route.
A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. Decide where people need to find the product and how staff will use it before settling on the format.
Market
What customers in Canada may expect from your app
Repeat customers at a shop or restaurant may want to reorder, use loyalty features and keep payment details available for checkout. An appointment business may need booking, reminders, payments and a staff view of the day's schedule. List the task your customers return for, then give that task a clear place in the app.
Payment choices need an early decision. Interac offers debit payments and e-Transfer, and businesses in Canada can sign up to accept payments with Stripe. For digital content and subscriptions used inside an Apple app, we set up in-app purchases; physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment route, such as a card gateway.
Rules
What a mobile app project in Canada has to handle
PIPEDA sets federal rules for personal information in private-sector commercial activity; Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec have substantially similar private-sector laws. For your build, identify what the app collects, uses and discloses. We set up links to a privacy policy in the app and its Apple store listing, and the policy should match the information the app collects.
If your Ontario business or non-profit has 50 or more employees, the public website requirements under AODA affect the associated web work. We plan public web pages to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with the exceptions for live captions and pre-recorded audio descriptions.
How it runs
How a mobile app development project runs with us
We work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. In winter, India is 9h ahead of Newfoundland and 12h30m ahead of British Columbia and Yukon; some places move closer during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to review the work and leave feedback across the time difference.

Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We use that discussion to agree the scope with you, including the tasks the app needs to support.
- 02
Design
We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Put the clickable prototype in front of customers or staff; a screen is cheaper to change at this stage.
- 03
Build
For push notifications, we set up a sending service such as Firebase Cloud Messaging, the rules for recipients and timing, and in-app settings for notification categories. You help decide which messages are useful.
- 04
Launch
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. Keep those accounts available so the release is made through accounts your business controls.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather the following details so the app and its release can be planned around the systems and accounts you already use.
- Developer accountsRegister Apple and Google accounts in your company's name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- Existing systemsNote your website, CRM, booking system or payment provider, whether each has an API and who holds admin access.
- Testing groupCheck the closed-test requirement if you intend to use a new personal Google Play developer account.
- Review accessFor an app with login, prepare a working demo account and a live backend for Apple submission.
- Apple account deletionIf people create accounts in the app, plan an in-app way to start deleting them; deactivation alone is insufficient.
- Google Play deletionPlan an in-app deletion path for the account and associated data, plus a web link for deletion requests.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of mobile app development
The work changes with the systems you already have and the tasks people need to complete.
Backend
A documented existing API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a build as the app.
Integrations
Payments, maps, CRM, booking software and hardware each need setup, testing and handling for failures.
Offline work
Showing previously loaded data is a smaller task than creating and editing records offline, then syncing them with conflict handling.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material bring filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details into the build.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Give people useful app functionality. Apple expects more than a repackaged site, and a shell risks rejection.
Forcing sign-up too soon
Let people see value before asking for an account. Apple asks apps without significant account features to allow use without login.
Asking for notification permission at first launch
Request it when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until permission is granted.
Adding an SDK without revisiting privacy answers
Update Google Play's Data safety form to cover data collected by analytics or advertising SDKs.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include how many types of user need their own screens and permissions, and how much custom design, animation or language support the app needs. Start by listing the people who will use it and the tasks each needs to complete.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that can explain how it will build and measure your particular product. For a consumer or marketplace app, ask how it will cover both stores and track returning users. Discuss retention, drop-off in the main task and crash-free rates as measures you can review after release.
What is included in a mobile app build?
A typical project includes the app on the phone, a backend for accounts and data, and an admin panel for your staff. The panel gives staff a place to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts without calling a developer for each task.
Can the app share data with my website?
Yes. We can build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. React Native is written in JavaScript or TypeScript, and some logic can also be shared with a React web app. Discuss your existing website when agreeing the scope.
Who owns the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keep access to those accounts alongside your code and content, so your business retains control of the assets and the publishing accounts used for the app.
What support is available after launch?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air with a tool such as Expo EAS Update. Native code changes, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release.
