What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build native or cross-platform?

We usually recommend React Native for an app that needs to run on iOS and Android. It uses one shared codebase, with native modules for features that need them. That gives you a common base to maintain while retaining the option to build platform-specific functionality.

Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits products built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is two codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another cross-platform option: its Dart-based interface suits a heavily branded design that should look identical on both platforms, provided your team is comfortable working in Dart.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool because it skips store review. It will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them, though, and on iPhone it can ask to send notifications only after it has been added to the Home Screen. We help you choose by starting with the features your app needs to use.

Local

What Quebec organisations need from an app

The service sector supports much of Quebec's economy. An appointment business such as a clinic or salon needs customers to book and receive reminders, while staff need a view of the day's schedule. Shops and restaurants with repeat customers can use an app for reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a fast checkout and notifications timed around the customer's activity.

Mining is among the region's export industries. A business managing maintenance or inspection work can give field staff forms, photos, signatures and job locations on their phones, then sync that information to the office when signal returns. A consumer startup, meanwhile, may need both app stores covered from one codebase and analytics that show whether users return.

Rules

What a mobile app project in Canada has to handle

Quebec has its own private-sector privacy law, while federal rules cover personal information in commercial activity. For an app with customer accounts, we map the information the service collects, uses and discloses, then set up the account and data flows around those purposes.

Canadian businesses can sign up to accept payments with Stripe. If you choose it as your payment provider, we set up the integration and test how the app handles payment failures as well as successful transactions.

How it runs

How a mobile app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is ahead of Canada, and the gap varies across time zones and seasons. The board gives you a place to leave feedback for us to pick up across that time difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals with you, then agree what belongs in the scope before design starts.

  2. 02

    Design

We create screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can point out anything that does not fit how your customers work.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps you change a screen while it is cheaper to change than a built feature.

  4. 04

    Build and test

We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight on iPhone or a Google Play testing track. You can try the flows in real use and tell us what needs attention.

  5. 05

    Release

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring these details to make the first discussion useful.

  • List what users must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
  • Note the website, CRM, booking or other systems involved, their APIs and who holds admin access.
  • Start company developer-account registration early; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
  • Have a privacy policy that matches the information the app collects.
  • If users create accounts, plan an in-app way to start account deletion for Apple.
  • For Google Play, also plan a web link for account and data deletion requests.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of app development

The work changes with the systems, users and screens you need.

  • Backend

An existing system with a documented API reduces work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large as the app.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Interface

Custom animation, several languages or tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Posts from users need moderation features, including reporting, filtering and blocking abusive users.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with app development

  • Wrapping the website

Apple expects an app to offer more than a repackaged site. Give users a reason to install it instead of placing the existing website inside an app shell.

  • Forcing sign-up too early

Let people see useful content before asking them to register when the app has no significant account-based features.

  • Asking for notification permission immediately

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Quebec

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The scope of notification rules and settings, plus the analytics and crash reporting included in the first release, both affect the work. We agree the scope with you before discussing a quote, so the features and reporting you need are clear.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that can explain the complete product and give you direct access to the people doing the work. We let you speak to the people designing and building your product. Ask how staff will edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts through the admin panel.

Can our app share work with our existing website?

Yes. We can build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools. With React Native, some logic can also be shared with a React web app. The backend keeps shared accounts and data in one place; shared interface logic is a separate consideration.

Who owns the app and its accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business's name as well. That makes it easier to move the app later without having to recover access from an agency or freelancer.

What support does the app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air, but native code changes and new permissions need a store release.

Can the app take payments and sell subscriptions?

Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. The payment route needs to match what you sell: Google Play billing is required for digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app, and must not be used for physical goods or services such as groceries or transport.
