Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform, native or web app?
We usually build with React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. It is a practical choice when you want to cover both platforms without maintaining separate apps. For an app built around deep device features or complex background work, native development gives you more direct access to the platforms, with separate codebases to maintain. We help you choose based on what the app needs to do.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that should look identical on both platforms. Your team needs to be comfortable working in Dart when maintaining it.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. Decide how staff will find and open the tool before choosing that route.
Local
What Newfoundland and Labrador businesses need from an app
In St. John’s, the provincial capital, an appointment business such as a clinic, salon or gym needs customers to book and pay without making staff manage every request by hand. An app can bring booking, reminders and payments into the customer flow, while giving staff a view of the day’s schedule. Shops and restaurants serving repeat customers have a different task: make reordering and checkout quick, with loyalty features and saved payment details where those fit the service.
For businesses working in the province’s energy and resources sector, the phone screen is only part of a project. Where an app holds accounts and records, staff also need an admin panel to look up users and manage content without calling a developer. We plan that back-office work alongside the app and its backend.
Rules
What an app project in Canada has to handle
For private-sector commercial activity, federal privacy rules govern how personal information is collected, used and disclosed. We plan the account and data flows around the information your app actually needs, and set up a link to your matching privacy policy inside the app and in its Apple store listing.
Checkout depends on what you sell. We set up in-app purchases or subscriptions for digital goods used in the app, and a card gateway for physical goods or services used outside it. Stripe is available to businesses in Canada as a payment option.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We are a studio in India and work remotely with you. India time is ahead of Newfoundland time, and the gap changes with daylight saving. We use video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board to keep questions and feedback moving between conversations.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us agree which tasks and features belong in the scope.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android. You review the flows and give feedback before we write code.
- 03
Build
We develop the shared React Native codebase for both platforms, using native modules where a feature calls for them.
- 04
Test
We send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play’s testing tracks. You try real tasks and tell us what needs attention.
- 05
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring these details to the first conversation.
- List the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Identify your website, CRM, booking or payment systems, their APIs and who holds admin access.
- If the app has a login, plan a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s submission review.
- Check whether your Google Play developer account is a new personal account; that affects the closed testing needed before production.
- Arrange developer accounts in your business’s name so the app can be submitted under your control.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing of app development
The work grows with the systems, screens and operating rules your app needs.
Live features
Tracking and chat need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, booking system or device adds setup, testing and failure handling.
Screen variations
Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across the app.
User content
Posts or other submissions need moderation tools, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Existing systems
A documented backend API reduces work; a new backend and admin panel add a substantial build.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping a website
Apple expects an app to offer more than a repackaged site. Plan useful app flows before submitting it.
Asking for notification permission too early
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without updating privacy answers: Check the data it collects and include that collection in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Questions

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price for every app. The level of offline work is a major driver: displaying previously loaded data is less work than allowing offline edits and resolving conflicts when they sync. Payments and subscriptions also add work to the scope. Agree the tasks and features first so the quote reflects what you need.
How should I choose an app development company?
Choose a team you can speak to directly about the product and its trade-offs. With us, you talk to the people who design and build it. If you are launching a consumer or marketplace product, ask how the team will cover both stores and measure whether users return after installing.
What is included behind the app screens?
The work can include the services and settings that make features usable. For notifications, we plan a sending service, rules for who receives each message and settings for switching categories off. If your app lets people create an account, Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path and a web link for deletion requests.
Can the app share accounts with my website?
Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, so accounts and data live in one place. This is useful when customers already use your web platform frequently and you want the app to work with the same service, rather than giving them a separate account.
Who owns the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the code repository, developer accounts and signing access in your business’s name as well. That gives you control over the materials needed to maintain or move the app if you later change who works on it.
What happens after the app launches?
Support continues with bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. We can also discuss how updates reach users: over-the-air tools can deliver JavaScript and content fixes, while native code changes and new permissions still need a store release. Watch returning users, task drop-off and crash-free rate after release.
