Choosing
Should you build a native or cross-platform app?
For an app centred on accounts, forms, lists, bookings or payments, a cross-platform build is a practical option. React Native shares most of the code across iOS and Android while rendering each platform’s own interface components. That gives you a shared codebase to maintain, while still allowing web developers to contribute and some logic to be shared with a React website.
We generally use React Native and go native when an app needs deep device features. There is also a web-based option: a progressive web app can suit a staff tool and skips store review. It will not appear in app stores unless packaged for them, though, and on an iPhone it can ask to send notifications only after being added to the Home Screen. We start by learning what your users need and agree the scope with you, so the choice follows the work the app has to do.
Local
What Alabama businesses need from an app
Alabama’s retail businesses can use an app to give repeat customers a quicker route to reordering, loyalty benefits and saved payment details. The checkout needs to be quick, and notifications need to reach customers at useful moments instead of interrupting them without a clear reason to return.
Healthcare and other appointment-based organisations in Alabama need a way for customers to book and pay, with reminders and a staff view of the day’s schedule. For agricultural businesses whose teams inspect work in the field, offline forms, photos, signatures and job locations give staff records they can sync to the office when signal returns.
Rules
What a US app project needs to handle
State and local government mobile apps in the United States need to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA under the ADA Title II rule. For a public-sector project, we set up the app’s screens and controls against that accessibility standard and include accessibility checks in the build work.
Your checkout also needs to match what you sell. We set up in-app purchasing for digital content and subscriptions where the stores require it, and a separate payment route for physical goods or services used outside the app.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time and 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter; the gap is 1 hour less during daylight saving time across most of the mainland. Shared boards give you a place to leave feedback across that difference.

Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope together before design begins.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check the flows against the tasks your users need to complete.
- 03
Build
We develop the app and its supporting services. Your feedback on the screens gives us a basis for the work.
- 04
Prepare for review
If the app has a login, have a working demo account and live backend ready for Apple’s review. Leave room in the launch plan for fixes and resubmission.
- 05
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain access to those accounts.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical details will make the first discussion more useful.
- List the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they would do them.
- Identify the website, booking software or payment provider the app needs to connect to; note API availability and who has admin access.
- Prepare a privacy policy that reflects the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and inside the app.
- Plan for opted-in testers if you have a new personal Google Play developer account, which requires a closed test before production release.
- Have your phone ready for test builds through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks, so you can give feedback from real use.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The work grows with the flows, systems and ongoing responsibilities the app needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even if they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking and chat need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Interface variations
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Existing systems
A documented backend API can save work; a new backend and admin panel may be as large a task as the app itself.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Give people a useful reason to install the app.
Demanding sign-up too early
Let people see and use available features before asking them to create an account when significant account-based features are absent.
Adding an SDK without updating privacy information
Include data collected by analytics or advertising SDKs in the Google Play Data safety form.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Alabama
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. Offline viewing is a more modest task than allowing people to edit records without signal and resolving conflicts when they sync. A native app for both platforms also means maintaining separate codebases; deep device features can make that route worth considering.
How should I choose an app development company?
Choose a team you can speak to directly about the work. With MSH Technologies, you talk to the people designing and building your product, and the same team handles design, development and launch. That gives you a direct route for discussing screens, decisions and feedback as the project progresses.
What is included beyond the app screens?
A typical project also needs a backend and an admin panel. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. The admin panel can give staff a way to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts.
Who owns the finished app?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives your business control of those assets after the build. Ask for ownership to be clear when agreeing the project scope, so your team knows which assets it will hold and can plan how to manage them.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and future features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air, while native code changes, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release.
How will I know what people do in the app?
Include analytics and crash reporting in the first release. Tools such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics show which screens people use, where they leave and which devices crash. That gives you specific information to review when deciding what to fix or change after customers start using the app.
