Choosing
Which platform should you choose?
Shopify suits a store that wants hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for it. Apps add features, but their subscriptions are an ongoing cost, and deeper checkout changes are limited to Shopify Plus. WooCommerce is a fit if your team already works in WordPress or publishes substantial content. It gives you control of code, data and hosting, with responsibility for updates, security and plugin compatibility.
A headless storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, suits an unusual catalogue, a product configurator or a brand with extensive editorial content. It takes more build effort, and most later changes need a developer. That extra flexibility is useful when the way you sell calls for it.
We recommend a platform after learning about your products and operations. The choice should give your team an admin it can work with and a checkout that fits the way orders are handled.
Local
What Alabama businesses need from an online store
Alabama has retail businesses as well as manufacturing and technology operations. A retailer adding online sales may need its store stock synced with the shop's till and a click-and-collect option. A direct-to-consumer brand may need reviews, email flows and product pages that load quickly as its catalogue grows.
Automotive manufacturers and their suppliers are part of Alabama's economy. A supplier selling to other businesses may need customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities or quote requests in its store. Those requirements affect what buyers see after signing in and how an order is prepared for the supplier's team.
Alabama agriculture includes cotton, vegetables and peaches. A business selling products with made-to-order choices may need price rules or file uploads, with those choices captured alongside the order for the team fulfilling it.
Rules
What a United States store needs to handle
Statewide sales tax applies in most US states, including Alabama. Ask your accountant which taxes apply to your products and whether your prices include them; we then configure the checkout tax settings around those decisions.
US businesses can sign up to accept payments with Stripe. If it fits your business and platform, we set up the gateway in the store so customers can pay at checkout.
How it runs
How an e-commerce project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. Shared boards give you a place to review work and leave feedback across that time difference.

We discuss the platform around your products and operations, so the work has a clear direction before page design begins.
- 02
Design
We prepare product, collection and checkout pages for desktop and mobile. You review the screens and give feedback before we write code.
- 03
Import
We load a sample of your products first. You check titles, variants, prices and images before the full catalogue goes in.
- 04
Test
You place orders across payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases, then check stock, emails and the order records in the admin.
- 05
Launch and care
We set up the domain, email, analytics and search, then provide ongoing support.

Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The work involved depends on what your store needs to sell and how it connects to your operations.
Catalogue
Variants, bundles, engraving and products sold by weight or length add setup work.
Design
Adapting a theme is a smaller piece of work than creating a custom design for unusual products or a distinct brand.
Integrations
An accounting order export is smaller than two-way stock and price sync with an ERP or several marketplaces.
Migration
Moving customers, order history, reviews and redirects adds to a products-only move. Existing customers usually need a password reset.
Checkout and markets
Wholesale tiers, delivery date pickers and extra currencies, languages or tax setups add work.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid
Losing old page addresses
Map each old product and category URL to its closest new page and use permanent redirects when moving platforms.
Testing only in a sandbox
Place a real low-value order using live payment settings, then refund it and check the order email.
Adding an app for every feature
Review what each app or plugin does and remove those you no longer use to limit scripts, conflicts and recurring fees.
Overloading product pages
Compress images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where they are needed.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Alabama
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does an e-commerce website cost to develop?
There is no fixed price for every store. Your catalogue, the design and the connections to your other systems all affect the scope. A store with fast product pages and structured data also needs that search setup included in the work; we discuss what your store needs before settling its scope.
Should I sell through a marketplace or my own store?
Your own store gives you control of customer data and margin, while a marketplace brings ready traffic under its own rules. You need to attract visitors to your store. Running both is an option: stock can be synced so the marketplace and your store reflect the same inventory.
Can you move my existing store?
Yes. We can migrate products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it. Plan the customer communication as well as the data move: transactional emails include password resets, order confirmations and dispatch messages, and their wording should match your actual policies.
Will I own the store after launch?
You own your domain, content and code. That means you are not locked to the team that built the store. Keep those assets accessible to your business so that you can decide who works on the store as your needs change.
What should we check after launch?
Track conversion, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed against your figures from before launch or migration. Retest the full checkout after an app, plugin or theme change, and give each staff member a separate login with only the permissions they need.
How do we choose a payment gateway?
Start with where your business is registered and the currencies you sell in. Compare the payment methods your customers need, along with settlement timing and how refunds and disputes are handled. Test paid, failed, cancelled and refunded orders so the order record, stock and customer email update correctly.
