What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform or native app?

We usually build with React Native, using one codebase for iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. It uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. If you already have a React website, some logic can be shared, and web developers can contribute. It is a practical choice when you want coverage across both stores without maintaining a separate codebase for each.

Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch, but you will have two codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another option: its Dart code draws the interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look identical across platforms, provided your team is willing to work in Dart.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, although it needs packaging to appear in app stores. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen.

Local

What Tennessee businesses need from an app

Health care and tourism are part of Tennessee’s economy. A clinic needs patients to book appointments, receive reminders and pay, while staff need a view of the day’s schedule. A restaurant serving repeat customers needs a fast checkout for reordering, alongside loyalty features and saved payment details. Those tasks give you a useful basis for deciding which screens belong in the first release.

Automotive is the state’s largest manufacturing sector. A maintenance or inspection team needs job forms, photos, signatures and location details that reach the office when signal returns. Decide how much offline work is needed: showing the last loaded data is a smaller task than letting staff create and edit records offline, then resolving conflicts when those records sync.

Rules

What a US app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the ADA Title II rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We design the app screens with that standard in mind, so accessibility is part of the screen work from the outset.

Payment setup follows what you sell. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. Stripe is available to businesses in the United States, and we set up the appropriate purchases or subscriptions for your app.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m to 13h30m ahead of the mainland US in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback for the team across that difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task you want people to complete, so we can discuss what belongs in the app.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You get to review the flows and tell us where the screens need to change.

  3. 03

    Build and test

Test builds reach your own phone through TestFlight on iPhone or the internal or closed testing tracks on Google Play. Use the app yourself and share feedback from real use.

  4. 04

    Submit and release

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. If your app has a login, have a working demo account and live backend ready; leave room for a fix and resubmission if needed.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring these points to the first conversation.

  • List what users must do in the first release, in the order they would do it.
  • Note the website, CRM, booking system or payment provider involved, whether each has an API and who holds admin access.
  • Start registering company developer accounts. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification.
  • Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data your app collects; it needs a link in the app and its Apple listing.
  • If people will create accounts, plan an in-app route to start deleting them. Deactivation alone is insufficient for Apple.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The work changes with the features and systems in scope.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Integrations

Each payment gateway, map, CRM, booking system or piece of hardware adds setup, testing and failure handling.

  • Screen variations

Custom animation, extra languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across the screens involved.

  • User-generated content

Apple requires filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details, so moderation needs its own work in the app.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building an app

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell risks rejection under Apple’s guidelines. Plan useful app features beyond the existing site before preparing the submission.

  • A compulsory sign-up screen can lose users before they see any value. Let people use the app without logging in when it has no significant account-based features.

  • Asking for notification permission on first launch wastes the request. Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order; on Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Tennessee

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the app itself, the backend that stores accounts and data, and the admin panel your staff use to manage them. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work compared with building a backend and admin panel from scratch. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that can explain its platform recommendation and give you access to the people doing the work. We usually recommend React Native for a shared iOS and Android codebase, and go native for deep device features. You talk directly to our designers and developers, so you can discuss those choices with them.

Can my app share data with my website?

Yes. We build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools. For the first release, plan analytics and crash reporting as well: Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or Sentry show which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash.

Who owns the app and its accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name too. When those are held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name, moving the app later becomes harder.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Track retention and where people drop out of the main task, alongside the crash-free rate, to see how a release performs.

How do push notifications work?

Notifications need a sending service such as Firebase Cloud Messaging and rules for who receives each message and when. We build the notification capability and give people in-app settings to switch off categories they do not want, so you can target messages without treating every customer the same way.
