What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose a cross-platform app, a native app or a web app?

We usually build with React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. This suits apps built around accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content. It gives you coverage on both platforms without maintaining a separate codebase for each.

Native development fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is that you have separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain. We choose that route when the device requirements call for it.

A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. Consider where people need to find the tool and how they will use it before choosing the format.

Local

What Wisconsin businesses need from an app

Wisconsin has manufacturing and healthcare businesses among its major sectors. A manufacturing business with maintenance or inspection teams may need job forms that work offline, with photos, signatures and location attached to each job and synced to the office when signal returns. A clinic may need booking, reminders and payments, plus a staff view of the day's schedule.

Tourism is also a major sector in Wisconsin. A startup building a consumer product for visitors needs a way to reach people on both app stores and understand whether they return after installing. A shared codebase and analytics for repeat use give that business a starting scope for the app.

Rules

What a US mobile app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the US Title II rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That changes the screen-design work: we set up the app's screens against that accessibility standard as part of the build.

For checkout, Stripe is available to businesses signing up in the United States. We set up a card gateway for physical goods or services used outside the app. Digital content, features and subscriptions used inside the app need the stores' in-app payment arrangements; some storefronts or regions allow outside payment options.

How it runs

How a mobile app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time to 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter, and the difference is 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback for us across that gap.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us agree what belongs in the project scope.

  2. 02

    Design

We design the iOS and Android screens before writing code. You review them and give feedback while changes are still being made to the designs.

  3. 03

    Test on your phone

We provide test builds through TestFlight on iPhone or a Google Play testing track. You try the app in real use and share feedback.

  4. 04

    Set up measurement

We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release, so you can see screen use, drop-offs and device crashes.

  5. 05

    Submit

We handle listings, submission and review using your own developer accounts. You retain the accounts used for release.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the information that helps us define the first release and the systems around it.

  • List what users must do in the first release, in the order they would do it.
  • Note the website, CRM, booking system, ERP software or payment provider involved, whether each has an API and who holds admin access.
  • Have a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects, ready to link from the app and its Apple store listing.
  • For a new personal Google Play developer account, identify people who can join the required closed test before production release.
  • Identify a few customers or staff who can try a clickable prototype and give feedback on the screens.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of an app

The work grows with the screens, connections and safeguards the app needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Integrations

A booking system, payment gateway or scanner adds setup, testing and handling for failures.

  • Screen variations

Custom animation, extra languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing work across screens.

  • User-generated content

An app with user posts needs filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details to meet Apple's requirements.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development

  • Asking for notification permission at first launch

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.

  • Adding a tracking tool without updating privacy answers

Check that Google Play's Data safety form covers data collected by third-party software in the app.

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Give people useful app functionality beyond the repackaged site. Apple's guidelines create a risk of rejection for a simple wrapper.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Wisconsin

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The scope changes with offline working, notification rules and real-time features. For example, saving edits offline and resolving sync conflicts takes more work than showing the last loaded data, while live tracking needs persistent connections. We can discuss a quote once the scope is agreed.

Which company should I choose for app development?

Choose a team whose working arrangement fits the work you need done. Ask who handles the screen designs, who builds them and who takes the product through launch. With us, the same team handles design, development and launch, so you can discuss those stages as parts of the same project.

Can the app connect to our existing website?

Yes. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, so the services can use the same customer accounts and data. This is useful when customers already use your web platform frequently and you want the app to work with the accounts they have.

Does an app with accounts need an account deletion option?

Yes. If your app lets people create accounts, Apple requires them to be able to start deleting an account inside the app. Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path for the account and associated data, plus a web link for deletion requests. Deactivation alone does not satisfy Apple's requirement.

Who owns the app after it is built?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business's name as well. Accounts held in an agency's or freelancer's name can make the app difficult to move if you change who maintains it.

What support does an app need after launch?

An app needs ongoing support for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. After release, check how many people return, where they leave the main task and whether the crash-free rate improves or falls.
