What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?

For an app centred on accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is often a practical choice. React Native shares most of its code across iOS and Android while using each platform’s interface components. Flutter also shares code, but draws its own interface; it suits a highly customised visual design if your team is prepared to work in Dart.

Native development gives you separate iPhone and Android codebases. It fits apps that depend on deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work, though you also have separate codebases to maintain. We usually recommend React Native and choose native development when the device features call for it.

A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool, particularly when a store listing is unnecessary. It avoids store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen.

Local

What Minnesota businesses need from an app

Minnesota’s economy includes finished products and services. For a shop or restaurant serving repeat customers, an app can make reordering quicker through saved payment details and loyalty features. The checkout needs to be quick, and notifications need to arrive at useful moments.

Manufacturing here includes technology and biomedical firms, food processors and heavy industry. A maintenance or inspection team needs job forms that work without signal, with photos, signatures and location recorded for each job and synced back to the office when a connection returns.

The Twin Cities area is a centre for economic activity. A business there whose customers already use its web platform can build an app around frequent tasks while reusing the accounts, data and backend those customers already rely on.

Rules

What a United States app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the US accessibility rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That changes the design and testing work: we set up screen designs and checks against that standard as part of the build, so accessibility is considered before submission. If your organisation is commissioning a public app, bring its accessibility requirements into the initial scope and screen review.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m to 13h30m ahead of the mainland US in winter, and the difference is 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives us a place to keep decisions and feedback moving across that difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks your customers or staff need to complete.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare iOS and Android screen designs and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Tell us where a flow feels unclear.

  3. 03

    Try the prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback can reveal a screen that needs changing before it is built.

  4. 04

    Test the build

We provide test builds through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use the app on your own phone and share what happens during real tasks.

  5. 05

    Submit

We handle store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You keep those accounts in your control.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

These details help us agree what needs to be built and prepared for release.

  • Developer accountsStart registering Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • TestersIdentify people who could join a closed test if you use a new personal Google Play account.
  • Existing systemsList your website, CRM, booking or payment systems, their APIs and who holds admin access.
  • Privacy policyHave a policy that reflects the data the app will collect, ready to link inside the app and its Apple listing.
  • Apple account deletionPlan an in-app deletion path if users can create accounts; deactivation alone is insufficient.
  • Google Play deletionPlan both an in-app deletion path and a web link for deletion requests.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and work involved

The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the app needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Offline work

Showing previously loaded data is more modest than letting people edit records offline and resolving conflicts when they sync.

  • Custom screens

Animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User-generated content

Posts or other submissions bring moderation work, including filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with app development

  • Wrapping a website

Give people useful app features; a site placed inside an app shell risks Apple rejecting it.

  • Asking for sign-up too early

Let people see and use relevant features first when the app has no significant account-based features.

  • Leaving access with an agency

Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name so the app remains movable.

  • Adding an SDK without a privacy update

Check what an analytics or advertising SDK collects and reflect it in Google Play’s Data safety form.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Minnesota

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The work changes considerably if you need live tracking or chat, and if a backend and admin panel must be built from scratch instead of using an existing documented API. We send a free quote once we have agreed the scope with you.

How do I choose an app development company?

Ask how the team will assess use after release, as well as how it will build the app. Retention shows how many people return after installing; drop-off in the main task shows where they stop. The crash-free rate helps you assess the effect of a release.

What is included in an app build?

An app project usually includes the phone app, a backend and an admin panel. The admin panel gives your staff a way to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts. We can use a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools.

Will I own the app code?

Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control over those assets if your needs change after launch. Discuss where the code and content will be held as part of agreeing the project scope, so your team knows what it will receive.

What support is available after launch?

Ongoing support covers bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out through an over-the-air tool such as Expo EAS Update. Changes to native code or permissions still need a store release.

What needs to be ready for store submission?

If your app has a login, Apple expects a working demo account and a live backend when it is submitted. Leave room in your launch plans for fixes and resubmission: an incomplete or crashing submission can be rejected during review.
