Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
For an app built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is often a practical starting point. React Native and Flutter share most of their code across iOS and Android. That gives you coverage on both platforms without treating each app as a completely separate build. We usually use React Native, adding native modules where a feature needs them; we go native when an app needs deep device features.
The frameworks make different interface choices. React Native uses each platform’s own interface components and is written in JavaScript or TypeScript. Your web developers can contribute, and an existing React web app can share some logic with it. Flutter uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design where you want screens to look identical across platforms. Choose it when your team is comfortable working in Dart. The choice affects who can work on the code and how much control you have over a shared visual design.
Local
What Indiana businesses need from an app
Manufacturing and agriculture are part of Indiana’s economy, including businesses working with machinery, crops and livestock. A team carrying out maintenance or inspections needs job forms that work without signal, with photos, signatures and location attached. When a connection returns, those records need to sync back to the office so staff can work from the same job information.
Businesses involved in exports such as vehicles, pharmaceuticals or medical equipment may already have a customer web platform. Where customers use that platform frequently, an app can reuse its accounts, data and backend. That gives the customer a mobile route into the service while keeping the underlying information shared with the website.
Rules
What a US app project has to handle
For a state or local government app, the ADA Title II rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We set up the app screens against that standard as part of the build, so accessibility is considered in the interface itself.
If your app lets people create accounts, deletion needs a route inside the app. We set up an in-app deletion path and, for Google Play, a web link where people can request deletion of their account and associated data. A deactivation switch alone does not meet Apple’s requirement.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives both sides a place to record feedback and decisions between calls.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task you want the app to help someone complete.
- 02
Design
We refine the iOS and Android screens with your feedback before writing code. Put the clickable prototype in front of customers or staff; changing a screen at this stage costs less than changing it after the build.
- 03
Test
We put test builds on your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You can then give feedback from using the app itself.
- 04
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain those accounts rather than having the release sit under ours.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Note which systems the app needs to work with, whether they have APIs and who holds their admin access.
- First-release tasksList what users must do, in the order they would do it.
- Privacy policyHave one that reflects what the app collects; Apple needs it linked in the listing and app.
- Google Play accountCheck whether a new personal account needs a closed test with at least 12 testers, opted in for at least 14 days.
- MeasurementDecide which screens and drop-off points you need to see in analytics, and include crash reporting in the first release.
- Review accessFor an app with login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review.
Cost & time
What affects app development cost and time
The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the project needs.
User types
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that request data when opened.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, map, CRM or booking system adds setup, testing and failure handling.
Offline work
Showing previously loaded data is more modest than creating and editing records offline, then syncing changes and resolving conflicts.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Give people useful app functionality; a repackaged site risks rejection by Apple.
Forcing sign-up too early
Let people see value before asking for an account. Apps without significant account features should allow use without login under Apple’s guidelines.
Asking for notification permission on first launch
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.
Adding an SDK without revisiting privacy answers
Update Google Play’s Data safety form to cover data collected by analytics or advertising SDKs.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Indiana
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Building a backend and admin panel from scratch adds substantial work, while an existing backend with a documented API reduces it. Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts also add design and testing. Once we agree the scope, we can discuss a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team whose approach fits the product you want to test and maintain. If you are launching a consumer or marketplace app, ask how it will cover both stores and show you whether people return. A shared codebase and useful analytics give you concrete points to discuss before hiring.
What is included in push notification work?
Notification work includes a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, and settings inside the app. For example, Firebase Cloud Messaging can send the messages, while users choose which notification categories they want to switch off. Agree those categories and sending rules as part of the app scope.
Will I own the app code?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control over the assets used to run and maintain the product. When agreeing the scope, make sure you understand which content and domain are part of the project alongside the app code.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan regular maintenance releases and check how people use the app after installing it. Google Play requires a recent target Android API level, and outdated apps can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Track return visits, task drop-off and the crash-free rate to assess releases.
How should the app take payments?
The checkout depends on what you sell. Apple and Google generally require their in-app purchase or billing systems for digital content and subscriptions used in the app. Physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method, such as a card gateway. Some storefronts or regions allow alternative options.
