Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform app or a web app?
A cross-platform app is a good fit for accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments and content. React Native and Flutter share most of their code across iOS and Android, so there is less separate platform work to manage. You still need to design and test the experience on both platforms, particularly where people use different devices.
We usually build with React Native, using a shared codebase and adding native modules when a feature needs them. If your app needs deep access to device features, we choose native development instead. That decision affects what needs to be built for each platform, so we look at the actual feature before settling on an approach.
A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It avoids store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can only ask to send notifications after the user adds it to the Home Screen. Consider where your users will find the tool and how they need to hear from it.
Local
What Ohio businesses need from an app
Ohio's manufacturers and agricultural businesses may have people completing work away from the office. An app for inspections or maintenance can give those teams forms, photos, signatures and a location for each job. We would plan for the information to sync back when a signal returns, so a lost connection does not stop the form from being completed.
Ohio's trade and transport businesses have different tasks to support. A shop serving repeat customers might need reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a quick checkout. A business whose customers already use its web platform could add an app that reuses their accounts and data, giving frequent users another way to reach the service.
Rules
What a US mobile app project has to handle
If you are commissioning an app for a state or local government service, the applicable rule requires the app to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We design the screens against that standard and include accessibility review in the work. Agreeing that requirement at the outset gives the screen design and testing a clear target, instead of leaving the standard to be addressed after the interface has been built.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We are a studio in India working remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of mainland US time, and daylight saving changes the gap. The shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible between calls, so work can move forward across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task users need to complete.
- 02
Design
Put the clickable prototype in front of customers or staff and bring their feedback. Changing a screen here is cheaper than changing it after it has been built.
- 03
Build and test
We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight on iPhone or a Google Play testing track. Use them in real situations and tell us where the flow gets stuck.
- 04
Plan account deletion
If users can create accounts, we provide the required in-app deletion route. For Google Play, we also provide a web link where people can request deletion.
- 05
Submit
We handle listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain access to those accounts for the release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A little preparation makes the first scope discussion more useful.
- List the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company's name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
- List your website, CRM, booking software and payment provider, noting available APIs and who holds admin access.
- If you plan to use a new personal Google Play account, prepare for its closed-testing requirement before production release.
- For an app with login, arrange a working demo account and live backend for submission, and leave room for fixes and resubmission.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The amount of design, integration and testing work changes with the scope.
Integrations
A payment gateway, CRM, booking system or scanner needs setup, testing and a plan for failures.
Interface design
Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
User-generated content
Filtering, reporting, blocking abusive users and publishing contact details add moderation work to the build.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building an app
Wrapping a website
Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Give people a useful reason to install the app and complete a task in it.
Asking for notification permission immediately
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. Set up message rules and in-app controls for notification categories.
Adding tracking late
Include data collected by third-party analytics or advertising software in Google Play's Data safety answers when that software is added.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The scope drives the quote: an existing backend with a documented API can reduce the work, while a new backend and admin panel need to be built as well as the app. We agree the scope with you before quoting.
How do I choose a company to develop my app?
Look for a team that can explain how it will measure use and diagnose faults after release. Ask which screens users visit, where they leave the main task and how crashes will be reported. Retention and crash-free rate give you more useful signals than download counts alone.
How do React Native and Flutter differ?
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform's own interface components. Flutter uses Dart and draws its own interface, which can make screens look identical across platforms. Flutter suits a heavily branded custom interface when the team is willing to work in Dart; some React Native logic can be shared with a React web app.
What is included beyond the screens on a phone?
An app project usually also needs a backend and an admin panel. The backend stores accounts and data; the admin panel gives your staff a place to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts without calling a developer for each task.
Will I own the app and its accounts?
Yes. You own your code, domain and content without lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business's name too; accounts held in an agency's or freelancer's name can make the app harder to move later.
What happens after the app launches?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Regular maintenance releases also keep the app aligned with Google Play's Android API requirements. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air, while native code changes and new permissions need a store release.
