What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?

A cross-platform app is a practical choice when you want to cover iPhone and Android without maintaining separate codebases. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. If you already have a React web app, some logic can be shared, and web developers can contribute to the work.

Native development fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look identical on both platforms.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool when you want to skip store review. It needs packaging to appear in app stores, and on iPhone it can ask for notification permission only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. That changes how people discover and use it.

Local

What North Carolina businesses need from an app

Charlotte is a major banking centre. A financial business whose customers already use a web platform might need an app that uses their existing accounts and data, so people do not have to start again when they move between the website and their phone.

Research Triangle Park is home to research organisations whose field teams might need to collect information away from a reliable signal. Offline forms, photos, signatures and job locations give staff a way to capture work on site and sync it to the office when the signal returns.

Small businesses make up a substantial share of businesses in the state. For a salon, clinic or gym, an app can bring booking, reminders and payments into the same customer flow, while giving staff a view of the day’s schedule.

Rules

What a US app project needs for payments

What you sell changes the checkout we set up. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content, features and subscriptions used in an app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. Google Play also requires its billing system for digital goods and subscriptions, and does not allow it for physical goods or services. Some regions allow alternatives. For a physical-goods checkout, Stripe is available to US businesses, so we can plan a card gateway around it.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

You talk directly to the people designing and building your app. IST is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. We keep feedback moving across that difference by putting test builds on your phone, where you can use them and tell us what needs attention.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the task you want customers or staff to complete first.

  2. 02

    Design

We design screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You get to review the flows while they are still designs.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback can reveal a screen that needs changing before it has been built.

  4. 04

    Launch

We handle the App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release. If the app has a login, provide a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s review, and leave room for a fix and resubmission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

These details give us a useful starting point for the scope.

  • List the actions users must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
  • Start registering your company’s Apple and Google developer accounts early; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification.
  • Have a privacy policy that reflects what the app collects, ready to link in the app and its Apple listing.
  • If users create accounts, plan an in-app way to start deleting them for Apple. Deactivation alone is insufficient.
  • For Google Play, also plan a web link where users can request deletion of their account and associated data.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the app needs.

  • Offline work

Showing the last loaded data is modest work; creating and editing records offline needs later syncing and conflict handling.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Screen design

Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Apps with user-generated content need filtering, reporting and blocking tools, plus published contact details under Apple’s requirements.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid

  • Asking for notifications immediately

Wait until the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Plan useful app functionality beyond the existing site. Apple’s guidelines expect more than a repackaged website.

  • Adding an analytics or advertising SDK late

Update the store privacy answers as part of that change. Google Play’s Data safety form must cover data collected by third-party SDKs.

Questions

Asked by businesses in North Carolina

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price: the backend and the integrations you need are major drivers. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work, while a new backend and admin panel can be as substantial as the app itself. Each payment, booking, CRM or hardware integration also needs setup, testing and failure handling.

Which company should I choose for app development?

Choose a team that can explain the whole product, including the backend and the tools your staff will use. Ask how staff will edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts. Those tasks need an admin panel, alongside the app on the phone and the backend that stores accounts and data.

Can one app work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. We use React Native to build from one codebase for both platforms, adding native modules where the app needs them. For an app that depends on deep device features, we consider native development. The choice starts with what the app has to do on the device.

Who owns the app and developer accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keep the signing access and code repository in your business’s name too, so moving the app later does not depend on an agency’s account.

What support does the app need after launch?

An app needs bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and potentially new features. We provide ongoing support after launch. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air, while native code changes, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still require a store release.

How will I know where users are having trouble?

Include analytics and crash reporting in the first release. Tools such as Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or Sentry can show which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash. After launch, look at retention and the crash-free rate alongside the main task, instead of counting downloads alone.
