What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose a cross-platform, native or web app?

For an app built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical starting point. We usually use React Native: it shares a codebase across iOS and Android, with native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you both platforms without maintaining every screen separately.

Native development in Swift and Kotlin fits apps that depend on deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. The trade-off is a separate codebase for each platform. Flutter is another cross-platform option; its Dart code and custom-drawn interface suit a heavily branded design, provided your team is comfortable working in Dart.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in app stores without packaging, and on an iPhone it can request notification permission only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. We help you choose by looking at the device features your app needs.

Local

What California businesses need from an app

California’s agricultural businesses, including dairy, almond and grape producers, may have field teams carrying out inspections or maintenance. An app for that work needs forms, photos, signatures and location attached to each job, with records sent back to the office when a connection returns. The useful detail is what staff need to record while they are still on site.

For technology startups in Silicon Valley building a consumer app or marketplace, reaching both app stores is part of the initial scope. A shared codebase covers iOS and Android, while analytics can show whether people return after installing. That gives you something specific to review as you decide which parts of the product to develop next.

Rules

What a US mobile app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the ADA Title II rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That changes the screen design and testing work: we use that standard as the target when designing the app’s screens and checking them. Bring the requirement into scope from the outset, so the screens and their interactions are considered against it during the project.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

You speak directly to the people designing and building your app. India time is 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter and 1 hour less ahead during daylight saving time. We use the shared project board to keep decisions and feedback visible across that gap.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task you want people to complete in the app.

  2. 02

    Design

We create iOS and Android screen designs and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You review the flows and tell us where they do not match how your customers or staff work.

  3. 03

    Build and test

The same team handles design, development and launch. We test on real devices and browsers; you review the work and raise issues as the product takes shape.

  4. 04

    Submit

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts while we work through the release.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

A few practical details will help us discuss the scope.

  • List the tasks users need in the first release, in the order they will do them.
  • Note the website, CRM, booking software and payment provider the app must connect to, their APIs and who has admin access.
  • Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
  • Have a privacy policy that matches the data the app will collect, for the store listing and the app.
  • Identify customers or staff who can try a clickable prototype and give feedback on its screens.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The scope determines the amount of design, backend work and testing.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that request data when opened.

  • Integrations

Each payment gateway, map, CRM or booking system needs setup, testing and a way to handle failures.

  • Screen design

Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with your app

  • Wrapping the website

Apple expects an app to offer more than a repackaged site. Give people a useful app-specific task before submitting it.

  • Blocking exploration with sign-up

Let people use the app without logging in when its main features do not need an account.

  • Requesting notifications immediately

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.

  • Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without updating privacy answers: Include data collected by third-party SDKs in the Google Play Data safety form.

Questions

Asked by businesses in California

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The work changes with the accounts and admin tools you need, the purchases or subscriptions in the app, and whether you already have a backend with a documented API. We agree the scope with you before establishing what needs to be built.

How should I choose an app development company?

Look at how you will review the work and speak to the people building it. With us, you can put a test build on your own phone during development: TestFlight is used on iPhone, and Google Play has internal or closed testing tracks. Feedback then comes from using the app.

What is included beyond the app screens?

An app project usually includes a backend and an admin panel as well as the app on the phone. Staff may need the panel to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools.

Does an app need an account deletion option?

If people can create an account, both stores require a path to delete it. Apple requires the request to start inside the app; deactivation alone is insufficient. Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path and a web link where people can request deletion of the account and associated data.

Will I own the app and its store accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keeping those accounts in your name gives you control of the listings while we carry out the release work.

What support is available after launch?

Launch is followed by ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air with tools such as Expo EAS Update. Native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
