What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform or native development?

A cross-platform app is a practical choice when the main work involves accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content. We build with React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android while using native modules where needed. React Native renders each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can be shared with a React web app.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look the same across platforms. The trade-off is working in Dart. Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android; it fits deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work, but means maintaining separate codebases.

Start with the tasks your users need to complete and the device features those tasks require. We can help you weigh shared development effort against the flexibility of native code, including where native modules are needed within a React Native build.

Local

What Oregon organisations need from an app

Oregon’s tourism industry includes businesses serving visitors to its mountains, forests, beaches and lakes. An appointment-based business can use an app for booking, reminders and payments, with a staff view of the day’s schedule. Those flows give customers a clear way to arrange a visit and staff a place to check what is booked.

In Oregon’s technology sector, a business whose customers already use its web platform might add an app when people use the service frequently. Sharing accounts, data and the existing backend lets those customers use the same service on their phones.

Oregon’s lumber industry also has a use for mobile tools: maintenance or inspection teams working on jobs need forms, photos, signatures and location records. Those records need to sync to the office when a connection returns.

Rules

What a US mobile app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the US accessibility rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We design the app’s screens and flows against that requirement, covering the tasks people need to complete on both iOS and Android. Bring the requirement into scope before screen design begins, so the work can be considered across the app’s flows and reviewed with your team during design.

How it runs

How a mobile app project runs with us

We agree the scope with you, then move through design, build, launch and care. India is 10h30m to 13h30m ahead of the mainland US in winter; daylight saving changes the gap. Clear feedback on the agreed work helps the project move between conversations.

  1. 01

    Discover

Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree what the app needs to cover before design starts.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows your customers or staff will use.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few real customers or staff. A screen is cheaper to change here than after it has been built.

  4. 04

    Build and test

We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use the app in real situations and tell us where the flow needs work.

  5. 05

    Launch

We handle listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. For an app with login, prepare a working demo account and keep the backend live for review; leave room for a fix and resubmission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the following to scope the first release and prepare for store submission.

  • List the tasks users must complete, in the order they will do them.
  • Start registering developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
  • If you use a new personal Google Play account, plan its required closed test.
  • Have a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects, ready for the listing and the app.
  • For account creation on iOS, plan an in-app route to start account deletion.
  • For Google Play, also prepare a web link where people can request deletion of their account and associated data.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and time of development

The scope determines how much design, backend work and testing the app needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Screen design

Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • Existing systems

A documented API for an existing backend can reduce the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a task as the app itself.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid in app development

  • Wrapping a website

An app shell around an existing site risks rejection. Give people useful app functionality beyond the repackaged site.

  • Asking for notifications too early

Request permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.

  • Adding an analytics or advertising SDK late

Update the store privacy answers when the app collects more data. Google Play’s Data safety form must cover data collected by third-party SDKs.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Oregon

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price: offline editing and syncing, and integrations with existing systems, are major drivers of the work. Showing previously loaded data without signal is a smaller task than resolving conflicts between offline edits. A payment gateway or booking system also needs setup and failure handling. Ask for a quote once the scope is agreed.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that can explain its platform choice and how you will assess the app after release. We generally use React Native for a shared iOS and Android codebase, and go native for deep device features. Plan to measure where users drop out of the main task and how many return after installing.

What is included besides the app screens?

The work can include a backend for accounts, data and notifications, plus admin tools for your staff. An admin panel gives staff a place to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts without calling a developer. Agree which of those tasks your staff need before the build begins.

Will I own the app and its accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. Accounts held by an agency or freelancer can make an app harder to move later, so settle ownership and access arrangements at the outset.

What happens after the app launches?

We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases as part of that work: Google Play requires new apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, and an out-of-date app can become unavailable to new users on newer devices.

Could a web app be enough for my staff?

A progressive web app can suit a staff tool and avoids store review. Check how your staff will open it and receive updates before choosing it: it will not appear in app stores unless packaged for them, and on iPhone it can request notification permission only after being added to the Home Screen.
