Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit much of the site itself. Its plugins offer a wide choice of features, though the site needs regular updates to stay secure. Before choosing it, decide who will be responsible for those updates and how often your team expects to publish.
A custom site built in Next.js suits a design without template limits, with fast pages and tight security. Your team needs to be comfortable asking a developer to make structural changes. A headless setup adds a separate content editor to a custom front end; it suits heavier editing needs but brings more parts to host and maintain.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow can suit a small site you plan to run alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. We recommend WordPress or Next.js after understanding how your team works, including who will make changes after launch.
Local
What Baltimore organisations need from their websites
Johns Hopkins Hospital and University are among the city’s top employers. For an appointment-based practice serving the city, clear service pages, practitioner profiles and opening hours help visitors understand the offer. A booking or call option needs to work well on a phone.
The city’s service economy accounts for 31% of its jobs. A construction or interior design firm can give prospective clients useful evidence with a project portfolio: photographs show the work, while project details explain what was done.
Baltimore’s tech sector is growing. If you are launching a product or raising money, your site needs a plain explanation of the product and a clear way for visitors to join a waitlist or book a demo.
Rules
What a US website project needs to handle
For a business open to the public, US guidance says ADA Title III covers goods and services offered on the web and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance. We agree an accessibility target in your brief and use it to guide the page designs and build. We also set up a clear heading structure, page titles and descriptions, an XML sitemap and structured data as part of the search-ready work. Agree the target before design starts.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less ahead during daylight saving time. The shared board keeps work and feedback visible between calls.

Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We learn your goals and agree the scope together.
- 02
Plan
We start with wireframes. Review the content and its order before moving on to colours and visual details.
- 03
Design
We prepare the sitemap and page designs for desktop and mobile, then refine them using your feedback.
- 04
Build
We turn the agreed design into code or an editable CMS and test the site on real devices and browsers.
- 05
Check and launch
Proofread each page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the site.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Decide who will gather and write the content: descriptions, biographies, case studies and photos often take longer to assemble than design takes to approve.
- Rank the services or products you want the navigation and home page to feature.
- Choose a goal, such as quote requests, and name the person who will handle those enquiries.
- Gather photographs of your team, premises and finished work; book a shoot ahead if needed.
- Collect case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships in a folder.
- Find the account details for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or identify who holds them.
- Bring examples of sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The build choice shapes the work: we use custom Next.js code or WordPress when your team needs full editing control.
Site scope
The sitemap, page structure, editor, forms and launch work each need an owner and contribute to the scope.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins or a CRM connection add design, build and testing work.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish reduce the work compared with adding copywriting, photography or translation.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide require less design effort than deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid
Copying every old page
Keep the service pages clear and review which existing pages are still needed. A shorter site is easier to scan and maintain.
Reviewing only on a large screen
Check every page on a phone before approving the design.
Putting accounts in an agency’s name
Hold the domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access.
Leaving search setup until launch
Check page titles, the sitemap and any development indexing block before the site goes live.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Baltimore
Page updated 5 November 2026
Is a business website still worth investing in?
Yes, when it gives visitors a clear way to enquire and your team a way to measure those enquiries. We set up contact and quote forms for the right inbox, plus WhatsApp and click-to-call options. In analytics, you can track those actions and see which pages visitors started from.
How much does it cost to have a website designed and built?
There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. The number of page designs, the detail needed across desktop and mobile, and the amount of old content to move all affect it. Blog posts, news archives and downloadable files need migration and checking. We can discuss a quote once the scope is agreed.
Can a custom website still have an editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js site can include an editor, so choosing a custom build does not mean giving up content editing. Next.js is faster and more secure than WordPress; the choice still starts with how your team works and what it needs to update.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Bring those materials into the discussion so the page design can work with the identity your customers already see, instead of waiting until the build is underway.
Will we own the website after launch?
Yes. You own the domain, the content and the code, with no lock-in. That ownership covers the parts of the site your business needs to retain control over, including the content you provide and the code used to build the website.
Who updates the website after launch?
Your team can update it through the editor we provide for pages, news, projects and careers. Decide who will take responsibility for each type of content after launch. Keeping those sections current helps visitors see that the information they are reading reflects your business.
