App developers for Baltimore businesses

You get an app for Baltimore customers or staff, with the accounts and data it needs behind the screens. We build the backend and admin tools, and set up push notifications for the people who choose to receive them. At MSH Technologies, we work with you remotely from India, agreeing what the app needs to do before building it.

What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform, native or web app?

We usually build with React Native. It shares a codebase across iOS and Android while using each platform’s own interface components. That suits an app that needs to reach both stores without maintaining a separate build for each platform. We add native modules where a feature needs them, and choose a native build when the app needs deep device features.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded app where you want screens to look identical across platforms. Your decision also needs to account for the team maintaining the app: they need to be comfortable working in Dart.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool when store presence is less useful. It skips store review, though it will not appear in the stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. Compare those limits with what your staff actually need to do.

Local

What Baltimore organisations need from an app

Baltimore has a substantial service economy. An appointment business considering an app needs to plan the booking flow alongside reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule. Staff need to see what customers have booked without having to ask a developer for help.

Johns Hopkins Hospital and University are major employers in the city. For a clinic considering a mobile service, the useful starting point is the task a patient needs to complete, such as booking an appointment, and the information staff need to manage that booking.

The city’s growing tech sector includes organisations considering new digital products. A consumer or marketplace app needs a plan for both stores and a way to see whether people return after installing it.

Rules

What a mobile app project in the United States has to handle

The accessibility requirement for state and local government apps affects the screen designs from the start. The US rule requires those apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, so we set up the app’s screen designs against that standard and make accessibility part of the work agreed for the build. This requirement is specific to state and local government projects; the scope should identify the services and screens the public will use.

How it runs

How a mobile app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback for us to pick up across that difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task your users need to complete.

  2. 02

    Design

We design the iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Put the clickable prototype in front of customers or staff and show us where they hesitate.

  3. 03

    Test

You use builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Send us feedback from using the app in a real task.

  4. 04

    Submit

We handle store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. For an app with login, prepare a working demo account and a live backend, and leave room for fixes and resubmission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

A few decisions and materials make the first discussion more useful.

  • List what users must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
  • Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
  • If you plan to use a new personal Google Play account, prepare for a closed test with opted-in testers before production.
  • Have a privacy policy that matches the data your app collects, ready to link in the app and store listing.
  • Decide how account creation will work. If users can create an account, they must also be able to start deleting it inside the app.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of mobile app development

The work grows with the screens, connections and rules the app needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Live features

Tracking and chat need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Custom presentation

Animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

An app where people post content needs filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details for moderation.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Plan a useful app experience beyond the existing site. A repackaged website risks store rejection.

  • Asking everyone to sign up immediately

Let people see or use what they can before requiring an account, particularly when the app has no significant account-based features.

  • Requesting notification permission on first launch

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Baltimore

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price for an app. The scope drives the quote: saving records for use offline and resolving sync conflicts takes more work than displaying the last loaded data, while each payment gateway, booking system or other integration needs setup, testing and failure handling.

Which company should I choose for app development?

Choose a company that plans the app, backend and staff tools as a connected product. Ask how your staff will edit content, look up customers or block abusive accounts after launch. Those tasks need an admin panel as well as the screens your customers see.

How should I take payments in my app?

The payment route depends on what you sell. Digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app generally require the stores’ in-app billing systems. Physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment method, such as a card gateway. Some storefronts or regions allow outside payment options.

What is included beyond the app screens?

The build includes the services needed to run features such as notifications. We set up a sending service, rules for recipients and timing, and in-app category settings. Analytics and crash reporting belong in the first release too, so you can see screen use, drop-off and device crashes.

Will I own the app and its accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name as well. That gives you control of the materials needed to move the app to another team later.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features after release. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Track returning users, drop-off in the main task and the crash-free rate to see what needs attention in later releases.
