Choosing

Should you choose a cross-platform app, a native app or a web app?

React Native is our usual choice for an app on iOS and Android. It shares a codebase across the platforms, while allowing native modules for features that need them. That gives you a common foundation to maintain without asking you to build every part separately for each platform. It is a useful option when your main work is getting accounts, screens and customer tasks into people's hands.

Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases. Choose the option around the features you need to deliver, because those features shape the build as well as its ongoing maintenance.

A progressive web app is another option, particularly for staff tools. It skips store review, although it will not appear in app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can request notification permission only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. That affects how you plan staff access and messages.

Local

What Nunavut organisations need from an app

Nunavut's economy includes arts and crafts, fishing and tourism. A shop serving repeat customers could use an app for reordering and loyalty, with a quick checkout and notifications sent when they are useful. Start with the repeat purchase: identify what a customer needs to find, choose and pay for before adding more screens.

Nunavut Arctic College and the territory's research stations are among the organisations that could assess mobile tools for field work. A field team may need forms, photos, signatures and location attached to each job, with records sent to the office when signal returns.

Most visitors from outside Nunavut are business travellers. For a tourism business that takes bookings, an app could bring bookings, reminders and payments into the customer flow, with a staff view of the day's schedule.

Rules

What your app project in Canada has to handle

Federal private-sector privacy rules cover how personal information is collected, used and disclosed in commercial activity. For your build, we discuss the information your app needs and how your business will use and share it, then set up the accounts and data behind the app around those decisions.

Stripe lists Canada as a country where businesses can sign up to accept payments. The checkout also depends on what you sell: digital content and subscriptions used in the app generally use store billing, while physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. We set up in-app purchases or subscriptions where they fit the product.

How it runs

How a mobile app project runs with us

We are a studio in India and work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Canada, with the gap varying by time zone and daylight saving. We use the shared board to keep decisions and feedback available across that time difference.

  1. 01

    Design

We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You check that the proposed flow matches the task your customer or staff member needs to complete.

  2. 02

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their reactions can show where a screen needs changing while it is still less costly to alter than a built screen.

  3. 03

    Test

Test builds reach your phone through TestFlight on iPhone or the internal or closed testing tracks on Google Play. Use the app yourself and send us feedback from real use.

  4. 04

    Release

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain access to those accounts and provide the material needed for the listings.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Gather these details early so the work can be scoped around your systems and release plans.

  • Developer accountsPlan to register Apple and Google accounts in your company name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • Existing systemsList your website, CRM, booking or ERP software and payment provider, including API availability and who has admin access.
  • Google Play testingCheck the closed-test requirement before using a new personal developer account for release.
  • Privacy policyPrepare a policy matching what the app collects for the app and its Apple store listing.
  • Demo accessFor an app with login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple's review.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of app development

The work grows with the flows, systems and rules the app needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than data loaded on request.

  • Design variations

Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Posts need moderation features, including filtering, reporting, blocking and contact details for Apple's requirements.

  • Existing systems

A documented API can reduce the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a task as the app itself.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with app development

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Give people a useful app flow with a reason to install it.

  • Asking for notification permission immediately

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. Android notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Adding a software kit without revisiting privacy answers

Check the data collected by analytics or advertising kits and include it in Google Play's Data safety form.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Nunavut

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price. The scope of offline work is a major driver: displaying previously loaded data takes less work than creating and editing records offline and resolving sync conflicts. Notification rules and in-app settings also add work. We can discuss a quote once we have agreed the scope.

Which company should you choose for app development?

Choose a team that will leave you in control of the product. Ask whose name will hold the developer accounts and code repository, and how you will retain signing access. Keeping those in your business's name makes it easier to move the app later if your working arrangements change.

Can the app use the same backend as your website?

Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, so accounts and data have a common home. This is useful when customers already use your web platform frequently and you want the app to work with their existing accounts and data.

What should an app with customer accounts include?

It needs a route for people to delete their account. Apple requires the deletion process to start inside the app, and disabling the account alone is not enough. Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path for the account and associated data, plus a web link for deletion requests.

Who owns the app code?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Ask for the handover arrangements to be clear before work begins, including how your business will keep access to the materials it owns. That gives you a basis for deciding who works on the product later.

What happens after the app launches?

Launch is followed by ongoing support for fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Review retention and the crash-free rate too, so you can see whether people return and whether a release has improved stability.
