What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build a native or cross-platform app?

A cross-platform app is a practical choice when the main tasks involve accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, which shares a codebase across iOS and Android, adding native modules when a feature needs them. We choose a native build when the app needs deep device features. That decision affects how much platform-specific work the project needs.

React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. Some logic can also be shared with a React web app. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits highly customised designs when your team is willing to work in that language.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, although it needs packaging to appear in the app stores. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. Decide how people need to find and use the product before choosing that route.

Local

What British Columbia businesses need from an app

Retail and tourism are major sectors in British Columbia. A shop serving repeat customers might need reordering, saved payment details and a fast checkout; an appointment-based service can need booking, reminders and a staff view of the day’s schedule. Those tasks give you a useful starting point for deciding which screens belong in the first release.

Agricultural businesses in the Fraser Valley and Okanagan have a different starting point if customers already use their web platform frequently. An app can reuse the existing accounts, data and backend, giving those customers a mobile way to return without creating a separate set of records.

Rules

What an app project in Canada has to handle

British Columbia has its own private-sector privacy law, so the information your app collects needs attention when you plan its screens and data. Apple also requires a privacy policy link in the store listing and inside the app. We set up those links; prepare a policy that reflects what your app actually collects.

Payment design follows what you sell. We set up in-app purchases for digital content and subscriptions used in the app, and a separate card checkout for physical goods or services used outside it. Stripe is available to businesses in Canada as a payment option.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 12h30m ahead of British Columbia, so the shared board gives you a place to leave decisions and feedback for the team across the time difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you before work moves into design.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows as well as the individual screens.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps you change a screen while changes are cheaper than they would be after the build.

  4. 04

    Test

Try development builds on your own phone through TestFlight or the Google Play testing tracks, and tell us what happens during real use.

  5. 05

    Release

We handle listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. For an app with login, have a working demo account and live backend ready, and leave room for fixes and resubmission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring a short description of the tasks and systems the app needs to cover.

  • List the actions users need in the first release, in the order they will take them.
  • Note the website, booking, CRM or payment systems involved, whether each has an API, and who holds admin access.
  • Start registering company developer accounts early; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification.
  • Decide what people need to see or edit without a signal, and whether their changes must sync later.
  • Bring ideas for notification categories, who should receive each message and when.

Cost & time

What affects app development cost and time

The work grows or shrinks with the flows, systems and screens you include.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff need separate screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.

  • Integrations

A booking system, payment gateway or scanner adds setup, testing and handling for failures.

  • Existing backend

A documented API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as substantial as the app.

  • Interface

Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Posts from users need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details for Apple’s requirements.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building an app

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Give people useful app features beyond the existing site; a repackaged site risks Apple rejecting it.

  • Demanding sign-up too early

Let people see value first. Apps without significant account-based features should allow use without login.

  • Asking for notifications at first launch

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

Questions

Asked by businesses in British Columbia

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The work depends on the backend that stores accounts and data, the staff admin panel, and the rules for targeted notifications. A panel that lets staff look up customers and issue refunds needs its own flows. Agreeing the scope gives you a basis for a quote.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a developer who can explain how they will assess use after release. For a consumer or marketplace product, ask how they will cover both stores and show whether people return. We would look at retention, where users drop out of the main task, and the crash-free rate.

Can the app share data with my website?

Yes. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools. That gives you a way to serve the same systems from each product, rather than treating the app as an isolated service. Tell us which existing systems you want the app to work with when you discuss the scope.

Who owns the code and developer accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name as well. Accounts held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name can make the app difficult to move later.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan maintenance releases as well as fixes. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air, but native code changes, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release.

Does an app need an account deletion feature?

Yes, if it lets people create accounts. Apple requires a way to start deletion inside the app; deactivation alone is not enough. Google Play also requires an in-app path to delete the account and associated data, plus a web link where people can request deletion.
