Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native?
We usually use React Native for apps that need to run on both iOS and Android. It gives you a shared codebase, with native modules where a feature needs them. We choose native development when the app needs deep device features. The choice affects what your team will need to maintain after release as well as what we build.
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders the interface components of each platform. If you already have web developers, they can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React web app. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look identical across platforms. Your team would need to be comfortable working in Dart.
Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits heavy graphics, complex background work and new platform features at launch, but leaves you with separate codebases to build and maintain. We help you weigh those needs against a shared build before choosing an approach.
Local
What Hull organisations need from an app
Hull has industrial facilities, and an inspection or maintenance team working at one needs a practical way to record each job. An app can collect forms, photos, signatures and location details, then sync them to the office when signal returns. That gives staff a record to work from without treating a phone connection as a given on every job.
Humber Quays has offices for several companies. If your organisation there provides appointments, a useful app scope could include booking, reminders and payments for customers, plus a staff view of the day’s schedule. Agreeing which staff need that view helps define the screens and access the build needs.
Rules
What a UK app project needs to handle
If your app is part of a service that also has a website, include the website in the design discussion. UK Equality Act guidance says organisations providing services through a website must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We plan those adjustments into the website screens as part of the project, alongside the shared accounts and data that connect the website and app.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely with you over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. IST is 5h30m ahead of UK time, or 4h30m during British Summer Time, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. The shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible between calls.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the task you want customers or staff to complete and any existing systems that need to support it.
- 02
Design
We create the iOS and Android screen designs and refine them with your feedback before code is written. You can check the flow and tell us where a screen needs changing.
- 03
Build and test
Test builds reach your own phone through TestFlight on iPhone or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. Use the app yourself and share feedback from real use.
- 04
Store release
We handle the listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts while we prepare the app for release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Make a note of the systems your app needs to work with, including your website, booking software, CRM and payment provider, and check which have APIs and who holds admin access.
- Developer accountsStart registering Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
- Privacy policyHave a policy that reflects the data the app collects, ready to link from the app and its store listing.
- TestersNew personal Google Play accounts need a closed test before production release, so identify people who can take part.
- Demo accessIf the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for submission.
- Signing and code accessKeep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The design itself affects the work: custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
Payment gateways, maps, booking systems and hardware each add setup, testing and failure handling.
User-generated content
If people can post content, the app needs filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Hull
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The depth of offline work and the staff tools behind the app both affect the scope: showing previously loaded data is less work than editing records offline and resolving sync conflicts. An admin panel also needs its own functions. We agree the scope with you before preparing a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Ask how the team tests the idea before building it and what useful work the app will do beyond your existing website. Put a clickable prototype in front of customers or staff during design. Apple’s guidelines expect more than a repackaged website, so an app shell around your site also risks rejection.
Can you add payments and account deletion?
Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. If people can create an account, the app must also let them start deleting it inside the app; a deactivation option alone is not enough. Include that account flow when agreeing the screens for your first release.
Will I own the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts, so those accounts stay with your business. Ask for access to the code and account details as part of the handover.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for maintenance releases and check how people use the app. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Track where users drop out of the main task and the crash-free rate after a release. JavaScript and content fixes can sometimes ship over the air; native changes still need a store release.
