Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?
We usually build with React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. Its JavaScript or TypeScript code renders each platform’s own interface components. If you already have a React web app, some logic can be shared, and web developers can contribute to the app.
Native development suits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features as soon as they arrive. It uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. The trade-off is that you have separate codebases to build and maintain, so the choice affects the work after launch as well as the initial build.
A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool and skips store review. It will not appear in the app stores unless it is packaged for them, though, and on iPhone it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. Decide where people need to find and use the tool before choosing it.
Local
What Doncaster organisations need from an app
A specialist manufacturer such as Rockware Glass could use a field app to give staff a consistent way to record work away from the office. Offline forms, photos, signatures and locations give the office a record of each job; syncing when signal returns keeps those records available to the wider team.
A visitor organisation such as Yorkshire Wildlife Park could use an app to put content and maps in visitors’ hands. A cross-platform build suits features such as lists, maps and payments, while a backend and admin panel give staff a place to manage the information shown in the app and look up customer records.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 5h30m ahead of UK time, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time; the shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible across that difference.
- 01
Scope
Tell us what users need to do in the first release, in the order they will do it. We use that to focus the discussion on the main task.
- 02
Design
We design the iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can review the flows before they are built.
- 03
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Changing a screen at this stage is cheaper than changing it after build.
- 04
Test
Try builds on your own phone through TestFlight or the Google Play testing tracks, and share feedback from actual use.
- 05
Submit
If the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review. Leave room to fix problems and resubmit.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have for the discussion and note any gaps that need a decision.
- SystemsList the website, booking system, CRM or payment provider the app needs to use; note available APIs and who holds admin access.
- Developer accountsStart registering Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name, including the D-U-N-S number needed for organisation verification.
- Privacy policyHave a policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires links in the listing and inside the app.
- NotificationsDecide which messages people need and when. We set up a sending service, recipient rules and settings to switch categories off.
- Sign-inConsider what people can use before creating an account. Apple asks for access without login when an app lacks significant account-based features.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of an app?
The amount of design, backend and testing work changes with the scope.
User types
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Interface
Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Digital purchases
In-app purchases and subscriptions need work across both stores.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Doncaster
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The work changes with integrations, the state of your backend and the level of offline use. Showing previously loaded data without signal is a smaller task than letting people edit records offline and resolving conflicts when they sync. Agree the scope before asking for a quote.
How should I choose an app development company?
Ask who will design and build the app, and how you will discuss decisions with them. With us, you talk directly to those people. Also ask what the app will offer beyond your existing website: Apple’s guidelines say a repackaged site risks rejection and gives people little reason to install it.
What happens if users create an account in the app?
Plan an account deletion flow as part of the build. Apple requires people to be able to start deletion inside the app; deactivation alone is insufficient. Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path and a web link where people can request deletion of their account and associated data.
Who owns the app and its store accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. That gives you ownership of the project assets while we take care of the practical submission work for the App Store and Google Play.
What support is available after launch?
Ongoing support covers bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Analytics and crash reporting show where people leave a task and which devices crash. For some JavaScript and content fixes, an over-the-air update avoids a store build; native code changes still need a store release.
