App developers for businesses in York
You get a mobile app designed around the tasks your customers or staff need to complete. We design screens for iOS and Android, build the app and handle its store release. From India, MSH Technologies works with businesses in York on the decisions behind those screens, from what belongs in the first release to how people will use it on their phones.

Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code across iOS and Android. It suits products built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, with native modules where a feature needs them. Its JavaScript or TypeScript code renders each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can be shared with a React web app. That gives web developers a way to contribute to the app.
Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits an app built around deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is that you have separate codebases to build and maintain. Before choosing, look at what people must do in the app and which device features those tasks need. A booking flow and a product built around demanding graphics make different demands on the build.
Local
What York organisations need from an app
York is the administrative centre of the City of York district. If you manage an organisation serving the district, an app with accounts and a staff admin view can give people access to shared data. We build the backend for the app, website and admin tools, so those services draw on the same accounts and information.
York businesses serving industrial organisations across Yorkshire may have delivery, maintenance or inspection staff working away from the office. Their app needs job forms, photos, signatures and location details, with records synced when signal returns. Agree which details staff must capture on each job before deciding what the office view needs to show.
Rules
What a UK app project has to handle
For a UK app that collects personal data, UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 govern that data. We build account and data features and the admin tools behind them. We also put a privacy policy link inside the app and in its App Store listing; the policy needs to match what the app actually collects. Settle what data each account needs before finalising those flows and the policy.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India time is 5h30m ahead of UK time, or 4h30m during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see what is being worked on across that difference.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task you want people to complete.
- 02
Design
We design the iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Tell us where a flow does not match the way your customers or staff work.
- 03
Try the prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Changing a screen at this stage takes less effort than changing it after the build.
- 04
Test on your phone
We share test builds through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks, so you can give feedback from real use.
- 05
Submit
We handle listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. For an app with login, have a working demo account and live backend ready for Apple’s review, and leave room for fixes and resubmission.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few details make the first discussion more useful.
- List what users must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
- Name the website, CRM, booking, ERP and payment systems involved; note which have an API and who has admin access.
- Check who will hold the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name.
- Identify any analytics or advertising tools planned for the app, so their data collection is included in Google Play’s Data safety answers.
- If you plan to use a new personal Google Play developer account, prepare for its required closed test before production release.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and work involved
The scope determines how much needs to be designed, built and tested.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that request data when opened.
Existing systems
A documented backend API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a task as the app.
User content
Posts from users bring moderation work, including filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details for Apple’s requirements.
Questions
Asked by businesses in York
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Offline editing and later syncing take more work than showing the last loaded data, while each connection to a payment gateway, booking system or other service adds setup, testing and failure handling. Agree which tasks and integrations belong in the first release before asking for a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team by the product you need to build and how you will check its use after launch. For a consumer product or marketplace, ask how it will cover both stores and measure returning users. Also ask what the app offers beyond an existing website: a repackaged site risks rejection by Apple.
Can the app take payments and subscriptions?
Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. The checkout needs to match what you sell: digital content and subscriptions generally use the stores’ billing systems, while physical goods and services used outside the app use another payment method. Some storefronts or regions offer alternative payment options.
Will I own the app code?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep ownership in mind when agreeing the work, so your business retains the material it needs if you decide to change how the product is maintained. You do not have to leave those assets with a supplier.
What happens after the app launches?
Plan for maintenance releases and measure how the app is used. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Analytics and crash reporting show where people drop out and which devices crash; retention and crash-free rate help you assess a release. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air, while native changes still need a store release.
