Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Choose WordPress when your team expects to publish often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its choice of plugins gives you ways to add functions, but someone needs to take responsibility for regular updates to keep the site secure. Decide who will do that work before choosing the platform.
A custom-coded site, such as one built in Next.js, suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and a design without template limits. It also suits a team happy to ask a developer to make structural changes. Think about the changes you expect to make, as well as how the pages should look.
You do not need to carry every page from an old site into the new build. A shorter set of clear service pages is easier to scan and maintain, which gives your team less content to keep current. We recommend WordPress or Next.js after understanding how your team works and who will look after the site.
Local
What Hull organisations need from their websites
Hull has facilities for BP and Reckitt Benckiser and is part of the Humber Enterprise Zone. If you run a manufacturer or B2B supplier, give prospective customers capability or product pages, certifications and downloadable specifications. A quote form should ask for enough detail for your team to respond properly, without leaving the visitor unsure what to send.
Humber Quays includes the World Trade Centre Hull & Humber and offices for several companies. If your office is home to a startup launching a product or raising money, use the site to explain the product in plain English. Give interested visitors a clear way to join a waitlist or book a demo, so the next step is easy to find.
Rules
What a UK website needs to handle
If your business is a UK limited company, its website must show its registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited-company status. We set up space for those details in the site layout; you supply the correct information for us to publish.
Website service providers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We agree an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide the page designs and build. WCAG offers different levels of success criteria, and its publisher encourages use of the latest version.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely from India over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time. We use the shared board to keep feedback and project work visible across that difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do on the site. We use those answers to shape the sitemap.
- 02
Agree the scope
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the work with you. This gives both sides a basis for deciding what belongs in the build.
- 03
Design
We start with wireframes that establish page content and its order. Your feedback at this stage focuses on those priorities; colours come later.
- 04
Build
We develop the site in clean, fast code or with a content management system your team can edit, and test it on real devices and browsers.
- 05
Launch and care
We handle domain, email, analytics and search setup, followed by ongoing support. You confirm the information and access needed for launch.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
These materials help us understand the work and make decisions with you.
- Your main goal, such as quote requests or job applications, and who handles each enquiry.
- Your services or products, ranked by their importance to the business.
- Logo files, colours and fonts, or a note that these still need creating.
- Real photos of your team, premises and finished work.
- Sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- Account details for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of the person who holds them.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and work involved
The scope determines how much design, build and preparation work is needed.
Page design
A sitemap, wireframes and desktop and mobile designs need work and feedback before the build begins.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, several languages or a CRM connection add design, build and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; adding copywriting, photography or translation makes it bigger.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with a project where colours and typefaces still need deciding.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Hull
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price for every website. The number of distinct page templates affects the work, as does choosing a custom design or a separate content editor with its own hosting and maintenance needs. Agree the scope before requesting a quote, so it reflects the pages and setup you actually need.
Can a custom website still have an editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js site can include an editor, so choosing custom development does not mean every content change has to go through a developer. Tell us which pages your team expects to update and how it works; that helps us recommend an approach to the build.
What is included in the handover?
We set up your domain, email, analytics and Search Console, and give your team a walkthrough. We also provide an editor for pages, news, projects and careers that your team can use without training. Decide who will keep those sections current after launch.
Will we own our website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business name and grant access to the people working on the site. That leaves you in control of those accounts if you change who maintains the website later.
What should we check before launch?
Proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. Check the pages on a phone too, rather than approving the design only on a large desktop screen. Use real headings and paragraphs during design, since placeholder copy can leave layouts that do not fit the finished content.
