What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform or native development?

A cross-platform app is a practical choice when the main tasks are signing in, filling out forms, browsing lists, making bookings or paying for something. Frameworks such as React Native share most of the code between iOS and Android. That gives you a common foundation to maintain while still covering both platforms.

Native development is worth considering when the app depends on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features as soon as they launch. An iPhone app can be built in Swift and an Android app in Kotlin. The trade-off is maintaining two codebases, with changes and testing needed across each.

We usually build with React Native and add native modules where a feature needs them. We choose a native build when the app needs deep device features. Start with the tasks your users need to complete, then check which device capabilities those tasks actually call for.

Local

What businesses in England need from an app

England has a software sector that includes businesses developing consumer and marketplace products. For a startup launching that kind of product, a shared codebase can cover both stores, while analytics shows whether people come back after trying it.

Industrial businesses in the Midlands, North West, North East and Yorkshire may have staff completing jobs away from an office. An app can collect forms, photos, signatures and locations on each job. Decide early whether staff only need to see previously loaded information without signal or must also edit and sync records, including handling conflicts.

Tourism is a significant industry in England. Restaurants serving repeat customers can use an app for reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a quick checkout and notifications timed around a useful action.

Rules

What a UK app project has to handle

UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 govern personal data, so agree what customer information the app needs and who will use it. We set up the backend for accounts and data, along with the admin tools your staff need to work with them.

Store requirements affect the account screens too. When an app lets people create an account, Apple requires them to be able to start deleting it inside the app. We include that route in the account flow; a deactivate option alone does not meet the requirement.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to review work and leave feedback across the time difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks you want people to complete in the first release.

  2. 02

    Design

We design iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows with the people who understand the work.

  3. 03

    Try the prototype

Put the clickable screens in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback gives you a chance to change a screen before it is built.

  4. 04

    Build and measure

We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release. Tools such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics show which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash.

  5. 05

    Launch

We handle the App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release. You review the listing information before it goes out.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring these details to make the first discussion useful.

  • A short list of first-release tasks, ordered as a user would do them.
  • Details of your website, CRM, booking software or payment provider, including available APIs and who holds admin access.
  • Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number, so start that process early.
  • A privacy policy matching the data the app collects, ready to link inside the app and in its Apple store listing.
  • A working demo account and live backend for Apple submission if the app has a login. Leave room for fixes and resubmission.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timing of app development

The work changes with the features and systems in your scope.

  • Existing backend

A documented API reduces the work; building a backend and admin panel from scratch can be as large a task as the app itself.

  • Integrations

Payment gateways, maps, booking systems and hardware each need setup, testing and handling for failures.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Interface variations

Custom animation, languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Posts or other user-generated material need moderation tools, including reporting, blocking and filtering objectionable content.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with app development

  • Asking for notification permission immediately

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Putting sign-up in front of every screen

Let people see and use relevant features first when the app has no significant account-based features.

  • Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without revisiting privacy answers: Update the Google Play Data safety form to cover data collected by third-party SDKs in the app.

Questions

Asked by businesses in England

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. A backend shared with your website and admin tools, payments or subscriptions on both stores, and native modules for particular features all affect what needs to be built. Agree those requirements before asking for a quote.

How should I choose an app development company?

Ask how the team will handle the features your users actually need. For notifications, look for a plan covering the sending service, who receives each message and when, and settings that let people switch off unwanted categories. That gives you something specific to discuss before agreeing the scope.

Do I need separate code for iPhone and Android?

Not necessarily. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. Web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React web app. Ask how the proposed approach fits the skills and systems you already have.

Who owns the app and the store accounts?

You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keep signing access and code repositories in your business’s name too, so moving the app later does not depend on an agency-held account.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features after release. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. For some JavaScript and content fixes, an over-the-air tool can avoid a store build; native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.

How should payments work inside the app?

The payment method depends on what you sell. Apple and Google Play require their in-app billing for digital goods or subscriptions used in the app, subject to some storefront or regional options. Physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment method, such as a card gateway.
