What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?

Cross-platform development is a good fit for apps centred on accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content. React Native and Flutter share much of their code across iOS and Android, reducing the amount you need to maintain separately. Flutter uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a highly customised design that should look the same on both platforms.

Native development suits an app that depends on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. You maintain separate Swift and Kotlin codebases, so there is more to build and support. The extra flexibility is useful when those device capabilities are central to the product.

A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It skips store review, though it will not appear in app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. Choose with those limits in mind if store discovery or notifications are part of your plan.

Local

What Hawaii businesses need from an app

Tourism is one of Hawaii’s largest economic sectors, and the islands receive visitors as well as serving local customers. A restaurant serving both groups could use a fast checkout for repeat orders, saved payment details and notifications timed around an order. An appointment business could give customers booking and reminders while staff see the day’s schedule.

Hawaii is also a major agricultural exporter. For an agricultural business with inspection or maintenance staff, a useful app could put forms, photos, signatures and location details on each job. Staff need to record work without a signal and sync it to the office when a connection returns.

Rules

What a United States app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the ADA Title II rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We design the app screens against that standard and include accessibility checks in the work. This affects the screens people use to access the organisation’s services.

Checkout also needs the right route. Digital content and subscriptions used in an app generally use the stores’ billing systems; physical goods and services need another payment method. For an eligible business, we can set up Stripe to accept those payments in the United States.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 15h30m ahead of Hawaii all year, so the shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see what is moving between calls.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us agree what belongs in the project scope.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check the flow before it becomes a build.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Put the clickable screens in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback gives you a chance to change a screen before it is built.

  4. 04

    Test

We share builds for your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You can try the app in real use and send feedback.

  5. 05

    Submit

If your app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review. Leave room for a fix and resubmission if needed.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the essentials you have, and we can use them to shape the discussion.

  • Write a short list of what users must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
  • Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data the app will collect, for the app and its Apple store listing.
  • If you plan to use a new personal Google Play developer account, identify people for the required closed test before production release.
  • If users will create accounts, plan an in-app deletion path and a web link for deletion requests.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The amount of design, backend work and testing changes with the scope you choose.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Existing systems

A documented backend API saves work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a piece of work as the app.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Screen variants

Custom animation, extra languages or tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User content

Posts from users need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building an app

  • Asking for notification permission immediately

Wait until the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Putting sign-up before any useful experience

Let people use the app without logging in when its main features do not need an account.

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Plan useful app features beyond the existing site, since a repackaged website risks Apple rejecting it.

  • Leaving access with an agency

Keep developer accounts, signing access and the code repository in your business’s name so the app is easier to move.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Hawaii

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have an app developed?

There is no fixed price. The scope of offline work, payments and subscriptions, and the backend needed to connect your data are major drivers. Showing previously loaded information offline is a smaller task than allowing edits and resolving conflicts when data syncs. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a team that can explain the work and give you direct access to the people building it. Ask how feedback reaches the designers and developers, and who handles the app’s store listing and release. You speak directly with our designers and developers, and we handle store launch work.

What should be included in the first release?

Include the screens and backend needed for the main task, plus a way to see how the app performs. We set up notification delivery rules and in-app category settings when notifications are part of the scope. Analytics and crash reporting show where people leave a task and which devices crash.

Will I own the app code?

Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives your business control of those assets if your plans change. Keep a clear record of what your app uses alongside the code and content, so the people responsible for it know what they are taking on.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan regular maintenance releases and review how the app performs. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. Retention, drop-off during the main task and the crash-free rate give you a useful picture of what people do and how reliably the release works.

Do you submit the app to the stores?

Yes. We handle the listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. After release, some JavaScript and content fixes can go out through an over-the-air update; changes to native code, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release.
