App developers in Canberra
Get a mobile app designed around what your customers and staff need to do. We build iOS and Android screens, the backend for accounts and data, and the admin tools your team uses to manage them. We also handle store listings and release. From your first discussion through launch, you work with the same team designing and building your app for your Canberra business.

Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?
A cross-platform app is a good fit when the main work involves accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android while adding native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you a shared foundation to build and maintain, while the app still uses each platform’s interface components.
A native app is worth considering when the product depends on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is a separate codebase for each platform, with each one needing its own development and maintenance. That gives you a different level of access to the device, alongside more work to manage.
Start with what people need to do on their phones and which device features those tasks require. You talk directly to the people designing and building your product, so we can discuss the trade-offs with you before deciding how to build it.
Local
What Canberra organisations need from an app
Public administration is a major part of Canberra’s economy. For an organisation managing inspection work, an app can give field staff forms, photos, signatures and job locations, with records syncing to the office when a signal returns. The offline workflow needs to be planned alongside what staff use at their desks.
Canberra also has health care, retail and food businesses. An appointment-based practice needs booking, reminders and payments, plus a staff view of the day’s schedule. A shop or restaurant serving repeat customers has a different set of needs: reordering, loyalty, saved payment details and a checkout that is quick to use.
Rules
What an app project in Australia needs to handle
Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 Level AA for digital goods and services. We design and review your app screens against that level, so accessibility is considered in the screen work instead of being left until the store submission.
For card checkout, the Australian rule removes surcharging on debit, prepaid and credit card payments on the eftpos, Mastercard and Visa networks. We set up the relevant checkout settings without those surcharges; the payment flow needs to reflect that rule in the app.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely from India over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India time is 4h30m behind Canberra outside daylight saving and 5h30m behind during daylight saving. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see the work as it moves forward across that difference.

Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We discuss what users need to do and agree the project scope with you.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android. You review the flows and give feedback, and we refine the designs before writing code.
- 03
Build and test
You receive test builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play’s testing tracks. Use the app and share feedback from actual use.
- 04
Submit
We handle the listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. If the app has a login, provide a working demo account and a live backend; leave room to fix and resubmit an incomplete or crashing build.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the details that will help us define the first release.
- User tasksList what people must do, in the order they will do it.
- Connected systemsNote your website, booking system, payment provider or other software, its API and who holds admin access.
- Developer accountsStart registering the accounts in your company’s name and check the D-U-N-S requirement for organisation accounts.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data the app collects; it needs links in the listing and the app.
- Account deletionIf users can create accounts, plan an in-app deletion path and a web request link for Google Play.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of app development
The work grows with the flows, connections and content your app needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup, testing and handling for failures.
Live features
Tracking and chat need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Interface variations
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User-generated content
Reporting, blocking and filtering tools add moderation work to the app.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Give people useful app features. Apple’s guidelines ask for more than a repackaged site, and a shell risks rejection.
Making everyone sign up immediately
Let people see useful content first where the app does not need significant account-based features.
Requesting notification permission on first launch
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Canberra
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The scope of offline working and the notification rules are among the drivers: saving the last loaded data is less work than offline editing and conflict handling, while targeted notifications need a sending service and user settings. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Which company should I choose for app development?
Choose a developer who gives your business control of the app’s accounts and code. Ask where the developer accounts and code repository will be held, and who controls signing access. Keeping them in your business’s name makes it easier to move the app later.
Can the app use the same data as my website?
Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, so they use the same accounts and data. We also plan analytics and crash reporting for the first release, with tools such as Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics showing screen use and device crashes.
How do payments work inside the app?
The payment route depends on what you sell. Apple and Google generally require their in-app purchase or billing systems for digital content and subscriptions used in the app. Physical goods and services use another route, such as a card gateway; some storefronts or regions allow alternative options.
Will I own the app and its code?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control over those assets after the build. When reviewing the scope, ask for the code and content handover to be clear so your team knows what it will receive.
What happens after the app launches?
Launch is followed by ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air; native code changes and new permissions need a store release. Regular maintenance also helps keep the app aligned with Google Play’s Android API requirements.
