Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits a team that publishes regularly and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its plugin selection gives you options for adding functions, though someone needs to keep the installation updated for security. Decide who will own that task before choosing it.
A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and a design free from template limits. Plan on a developer handling structural changes. An adapted template is another option for a simple site with a tight brief; it still needs reworking around your actual content. A custom design gives you more room when your brand, audience or content has particular requirements.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. We recommend a platform after understanding how your team works and what it needs to edit.
Local
What Mackay businesses need from their websites
Sugar and mining underpin the local economy. If you supply those industries, your website needs capability or product pages that explain what you offer, with certifications and downloadable specifications where relevant. A quote form should ask for enough detail for your team to respond properly. If you work in construction or engineering, a portfolio with photos and project details gives prospective clients something concrete to assess.
Central Queensland University has a main campus in Ooralea and a smaller campus in the CBD. For an organisation managing content across campuses, an editor for pages, news, projects and careers makes it practical for the team to keep information current. Contact forms can route enquiries to the right inbox, with click-to-call or WhatsApp available where those suit the audience.
Rules
What an Australian website project needs to handle
Agree an accessibility target in the brief. Australian Human Rights Commission guidelines recommend WCAG 2.2 at a minimum of Level AA for digital goods and services. We set up the page designs and wireframes with that target in mind, so accessibility is part of the work before the build begins. Your feedback on those designs gives us a chance to address the target alongside the content and page layout.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is 4h30m behind Brisbane, and Queensland does not change its clocks. The shared board keeps feedback and decisions visible across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do on the site. We agree the scope and use those answers to shape the sitemap.
- 02
Design
We prepare wireframes before visual designs for desktop and mobile. Review the content and its order first; we refine the designs with your feedback before code begins.
- 03
Build
We develop the site in clean code or a CMS your team can edit, then test it on real devices and browsers. You review the working site.
- 04
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather what you have and note what still needs work.
- GoalsDecide whether you want quote requests, calls or job applications, and who handles each enquiry.
- ServicesRank the products or services you most want the site to feature.
- Brand filesBring your logo in SVG, AI or EPS, plus your colours and fonts.
- ExamplesList sites you like and dislike, with a reason for each.
- PhotosGather images of your team, premises and finished work.
- ProofPut case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and certifications in one folder.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The work involved depends on the scope and what is ready when we start.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need separate design and build work; pages sharing a layout require less.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages or a CRM connection add design, development and testing.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish reduce the work; adding copywriting, photography or translation expands it.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce design effort compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Mackay
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The scope of the page structure and forms, who gathers the service descriptions and photos, and any separate hosting needed for a headless setup all affect the work. We send a free quote once we agree the scope with you.
Can a custom site still have an editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js website can include an editor, so your team can update content without taking on structural development. Before choosing a platform, decide who will make updates and how often; that gives us a practical basis for recommending the setup.
Is it worth paying for a website?
It can be worthwhile when the site gives visitors clear service information and works well on their phones. Review each page on a phone before approving it. At launch, check that development indexing blocks have been removed, as those can prevent the site appearing in search results.
Will I own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Hold the domain and hosting accounts in your business name and grant the people working on the site access, so you retain control of those accounts if you change providers later.
What happens after the website launches?
We provide ongoing support after launch. Your team should also decide who will update news, project and job posts. In analytics, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages those enquiries started from.
