Choosing

Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?

WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its plugins offer a wide choice of features, though the site needs regular updates to stay secure. A custom Next.js site suits a company that wants fast pages, tight security and freedom from template limits. Your team can still have an editor, but a developer will usually handle structural changes. We recommend an approach after understanding how your team works.

A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone. It gives you less control over the code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding the site. Before choosing, think about who will publish content and who will make larger changes to page layouts. That decision gives you a more useful basis for comparing platforms than a list of features on its own.

Local

What Leeds businesses need from their websites

Leeds has manufacturing and construction businesses alongside finance, retail, leisure and creative and digital firms. For a manufacturer or B2B supplier, we would plan capability or product pages, downloadable specifications and a quote form that asks for the details needed to respond. A construction firm can give prospective clients a project portfolio with photos and details of the work.

The city is also served by five universities. A university website team can use an editor for pages, news, projects and careers, while enquiry forms need a named destination so messages reach the people responsible for answering them. We would agree those destinations as part of the page planning.

Rules

What a UK website project needs to handle

If you run a UK limited company, we set up space on the website for your registered number, registered office address, place of registration and limited-company status. We also agree an accessibility target in the brief and design pages for desktop and mobile with that target in view. Guidance on the Equality Act says organisations providing services through websites must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people; agreeing the target early gives the design work a clear reference.

How it runs

How a website project runs with us

We are MSH Technologies, a studio in India, and we work remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time, so we use those channels to keep feedback and decisions visible across the time difference.

    Discover

Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do on the site. We learn about your goals and agree the scope with you.

  2. 02

    Plan

We create the sitemap and wireframes. You review the content and order of each page before we move on to colours and visual design.

  3. 03

    Design

We prepare page designs for desktop and mobile and refine them with your feedback. Review both views so the content and actions work for you.

  4. 04

    Build

We develop the site in clean code or with a content management system your team can edit, then test it on real devices and browsers.

  5. 05

    Check and launch

You proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the site.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring what you have, and make a note of anything still to be prepared.

  • Your site goal, such as quote requests or job applications, and who handles each enquiry.
  • Your services or products, ranked by their importance to the business.
  • Real photos of your team, premises and finished work.
  • A folder of case studies, testimonials and client logos you have permission to show.
  • A few websites you like and dislike, with a reason for each choice.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of a website?

The scope determines the design, migration and maintenance work involved.

  • Design approach

A custom design takes a different brief from an adapted template, which still needs to be reworked around your content.

  • Content migration

Moving old blog posts, news archives and downloadable files adds transfer and checking work.

  • Brand readiness

An existing logo and style guide reduce design decisions compared with a brand whose colours and typefaces are still being settled.

  • Site architecture

A separate content editor and custom front end give you editing flexibility, with more moving parts to host and maintain.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building a website

  • Choosing a platform too early

Decide who will update the site and how often before settling on the technology.

  • Reviewing only on a large screen

Check every page on a phone, including the content and the actions you want visitors to take.

  • Leaving search setup until launch

Check page titles, the sitemap and any indexing block left in place during development before the site goes live.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Leeds

Page updated 5 November 2026

Is a website still worth building for my business?

A website gives you a place to measure the enquiries it receives and keep your business information current. Track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks in analytics, and check which pages visitors started from. Assign someone to update news, projects and job posts after launch.

How much does it cost to have a website built?

There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the number of distinct page templates, features such as booking or a CRM connection, and how ready your content is. Real copy affects layouts, so leaving it until late adds work. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

What is included in the website build?

The build can use clean code in Next.js or WordPress for full editing control. Search preparation includes page titles and descriptions, a clear heading structure, an XML sitemap and structured data. Agreeing these items at the outset takes less effort than fixing them after the build.

Will I own my website?

Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Your business should also hold its domain and hosting accounts in its own name and grant access to the people working on the site. That keeps control of those accounts with you when you need to make changes.

Can you use our existing branding?

Yes. We can build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Share the files you already use and tell us which elements are settled, so the page designs have a clear visual starting point.

Do you offer support after launch?

Yes. Ongoing support follows launch as part of our process. During the project, we agree the scope with you, refine the designs using your feedback and test the build on real devices and browsers before moving to launch and care.
