Tools we use: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Stripe, Vercel.

Choosing

What should you build first?

Start with a web app if people will use your product at a desk or share it by link. A mobile app first is a better fit when the core task depends on the camera, location or daily notifications. The choice affects which screens and device features you need to build and support.

For a web app with a rich interface, Next.js and React with TypeScript offer a way to use one language across the front and back end. Laravel, Rails or Django may fit an existing team that already works in PHP, Ruby or Python. We build in TypeScript across the front end, back end, database and APIs, using a stack such as Next.js, React, Node.js and PostgreSQL.

Hosting is another choice. A managed platform such as Vercel, Supabase or Firebase reduces setup and server upkeep. Direct hosting on AWS or Google Cloud gives you more control and can cost less at scale, with more operations work. For sign-in and billing, proven services remove much of the edge-case work; custom builds fit unusual pricing or strict data rules.

What Leeds organisations need from a web app

Leeds has finance, retail, construction and manufacturing businesses, among other sectors. A company managing a workflow through spreadsheets and inboxes may need shared data, permissions and a history of changes. If it offers the product to other companies, the app also needs separate workspaces and roles so customers cannot see each other’s data.

Leeds is also served by five universities. A university team planning a digital product may need screens for managing users and data, with access controlled for the people doing that work. Established organisations planning a new product can also need development capacity that leaves their own staff free to carry on with daily work.

Rules

What a UK web app needs to handle

If your product uses cookies solely for statistics or to adapt appearance to user preferences, UK rules permit those uses without consent when users get clear information and an easy way to object. We set up the information and objection route for those uses. For a service provided through a website, we also design onboarding, dashboard and settings screens with the reasonable adjustments disabled users need in mind.

How it runs

How a web app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to review work and leave feedback across that difference.

    Discover

Tell us what the product needs to do. We help decide what the first version must include and plan what comes next.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare the onboarding, dashboard and settings flows and screens. You review how users will move through them before the build progresses.

  3. 03

    Build and review

Each increment goes to a staging site. You try real tasks there and approve changes before they reach users.

  4. 04

    Test with users

A private beta with a small group of target users helps uncover confusing steps and missing features before public launch.

  5. 05

    Launch and care

We set up deployment, error tracking and backups before launch. We also set up your domain, email and analytics, followed by ongoing support.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring what you have, including these details:

  • Your users, the job they need done, how they do it today and what they would stop using if your product worked.
  • The competing products or tools people use together, and what is missing from each.
  • Existing designs, prototypes, repositories, domain, hosting and third-party accounts, with admin access.
  • The personal or sensitive data you expect to hold, your customers and any security reviews they require.
  • Any sample data that would help a new user understand the product during onboarding.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The scope determines how much design, development and testing the product needs.

  • Roles and permissions

Customer-managed teams and invitations add rules to design and test.

  • Billing

Per-seat or usage-based charges, currencies, tax and invoicing rules add complexity.

  • Real-time work

Collaborative editing, live dashboards and chat need extra infrastructure and testing.

  • Enterprise requirements

Single sign-on, audit logs, data export and security questionnaires add work.

  • Large data sets

Imports, exports and reports need background jobs and careful performance work.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid when building a web app

  • Building every account and payment component from scratch

Use proven services where they fit, so the budget goes towards the parts users notice.

  • Adding customer data separation late

Design it into the first version of a product that serves several customers to avoid a risky rewrite.

  • Treating every payment webhook as a new event

Make handlers skip events already processed and avoid depending on their arrival order.

  • Launching without product analytics

Track sign-ups, activation steps and feature use from the first release.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Leeds

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much will my web app cost?

There is no fixed price. Account features such as password reset and email verification add work, as do the staging, backup and transactional email arrangements needed to run the product. We agree a clear feature list and what the first version needs before deciding what to build.

Can you build the first version of my SaaS idea?

Yes. A focused first version can give users accounts and billing while giving you a codebase that can grow. Decide which job the product must do for its first users; that helps keep the initial feature list focused on something people can use.

Can you take over an existing web app?

Yes. We start by reviewing the code and infrastructure, then fix what matters most. That review is useful when your first version has slow pages or code your team no longer wants to change: it gives you a plan for fixes before adding more features.

Who owns the code and hosting accounts?

You own them. The code, repositories, hosting accounts and data belong to you, so you can keep control of the product after launch. Access to those accounts is part of the practical handover: your team needs to be able to reach the assets it owns.

What support does a web app need after launch?

It needs regular upkeep as well as attention to how people use it. Frameworks, libraries and hosting need updates for security fixes, even when you are not planning new features. Track activation, retention and churn alongside revenue to see whether users reach value and keep coming back.

What goes into subscription billing and administration?

Subscription billing covers more than taking a payment. Plans, trials, upgrades, downgrades, invoices, tax and failed card payments all need decisions. We also build internal dashboards for managing users, content and data, so your team has tools to administer the product.
