Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with who will edit the site. WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to change most of its own content. Its choice of plugins gives you options for extending the site, although someone needs to keep the software updated for security. A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and a design without template limits. Plan for a developer to handle structural changes.
The visual design is a separate decision from the platform. A custom design fits when your brand, content or audience calls for a particular page structure. An adapted template suits a simpler site and a tight brief, provided the layouts are reworked around your actual content. Think about the effort your team wants to put into editing as well as the flexibility you want from the design. We recommend WordPress or custom Next.js after learning how your team works.
Local
What Darwin businesses need from their websites
Darwin’s port is expected to grow with continued expansion in trade with Asia. For manufacturers and suppliers serving that trade, a website needs capability or product pages that give prospective buyers something useful to assess. Certifications and downloadable specifications can support those pages, while a quote form should ask for enough detail for your team to respond properly.
The Wharf Precinct includes a convention and exhibition centre alongside retail and entertainment outlets. A business or organisation there needs a clear page structure and an easy way for visitors to make contact on a phone. Agree where each enquiry goes, who receives it and what the confirmation says; decide whether to include WhatsApp or click-to-call buttons.
Rules
What an Australian website project has to handle
Australian guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 at a minimum of Level AA for equal access to digital goods and services. Put the accessibility target in your brief. We set that target for the page designs and refine the desktop and mobile designs with your feedback before code begins. Agree which pages and forms the target covers as part of the scope, so the people reviewing the work know what to check.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 4 hours behind Darwin, so the shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and follow the work across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do on the site. We learn about your business and audience, then agree the scope with you.
- 02
Plan the pages
We prepare wireframes before visual design. Your feedback at this stage should focus on what each page needs to say and the order in which it appears; colours come later.
- 03
Build and test
We build with clean code or a content management system your team can edit. We test the site on real devices and browsers, so you can review the working pages before launch.
- 04
Launch and hand over
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console. Your team gets a walkthrough so the people responsible for the site know where to find the setup.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather what you have, and note who holds anything still missing.
- Your goal for the site and the person who handles each type of enquiry.
- Vector logo files, brand colours and fonts, or a note that these need creating.
- Real photos of your team, premises and finished work; book a photo shoot ahead if needed.
- Examples of websites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- A folder of case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope determines how much design, build and checking work is needed.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need separate design and build work; pages that share a template need less.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, extra languages and CRM connections add design and testing work.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller than adding copywriting, photography or translation.
Migration
Moving old blog posts, news archives and downloadable files adds transfer and checking work.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid
Designing with placeholder copy
Bring real headings and paragraphs into the layouts early. Text that arrives later can be a different length and disrupt an approved design.
Copying every old or competitor page
Review what visitors need and keep service pages clear. A shorter site is easier to scan and maintain.
Putting accounts in an agency’s name
Hold the domain and hosting accounts in your business name and grant access to the people working on the site.
Leaving search setup until launch
Check page titles, the sitemap and any indexing block before the site goes live.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Darwin
Page updated 5 November 2026
Is website development still worth investing in?
It is worth assessing against what you need the site to do. A product startup, for example, may need a plain explanation and a way to join a waitlist or book a demo. You can then track enquiries such as form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks in analytics and see which pages they started from.
How much does it cost to get a website built?
There is no fixed price. The work changes with how much content you have ready, the editing your team needs and whether the site uses a separate front end and content editor that need hosting and maintenance. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Can a custom website still have a content editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js site can include an editor, while WordPress suits teams that want to edit a lot of content themselves. Before choosing, decide who will make updates and how often. That gives the platform decision a practical basis and helps you plan for the work your team will handle.
What search setup is included?
The build includes metadata, structured data, a sitemap and fast-loading pages. We also use a clear heading structure and set up page titles and descriptions. Getting these into the build takes less effort than treating them as fixes after the site has launched.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, the content and the code. At handover, we set up Search Console and give your team a walkthrough alongside the domain, email and analytics setup. That gives you a chance to see how the launch setup fits together.
Can you support the site after launch?
Yes. Ongoing support follows launch. On your side, decide who will keep news, projects and job posts current. An editor is useful only when someone is responsible for using it, and an old newest post can leave visitors wondering whether the company is still trading.
