Choosing

Should you choose WordPress, custom code or a hosted builder?

Start with editing. WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to update most of the site itself. Its plugins offer a wide choice of functions, but someone needs to keep the installation updated for security. Make that responsibility part of your plan before choosing the platform.

A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a design that needs freedom from template limits, fast pages and tight security. It is a good fit when you are happy for a developer to make structural changes. A separate content editor can still let your team update material without changing the underlying page structure.

A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site that you want to run alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean a rebuild. Compare that trade-off with how much editing control your team needs and who will maintain the site.

Local

What Cambridge organisations need from their websites

Cambridge hosts industrial companies including ATS Automation Tooling Systems and Gerdau. If you run an engineering firm serving industrial buyers, a project portfolio gives visitors a way to assess your work. Include photos and project details, and make it clear where a prospective client should send a quote request.

The University of Waterloo School of Architecture has a campus in Cambridge, and Conestoga College has an engineering technology school focused on advanced technology programmes. For organisations presenting this kind of work, plan a clear page structure and assign an owner for the content, forms and launch tasks. Visitors should be able to find the relevant information without having to work through an unclear menu.

Rules

What a website project in Canada needs to handle

For Ontario businesses and non-profits with 50 or more employees, the accessibility requirement covers public websites and web content posted after 1 January 2012: WCAG 2.0 Level AA applies, with exceptions for live captions and pre-recorded audio descriptions. Agree an accessibility target in the brief; we include it in the page designs and build.

If your site collects sign-ups for commercial electronic messages, consent needs to be part of the form. We set up the consent field and a route for unsubscribe requests; your messages also need to identify the sender and include a current mailing address and an unsubscribe mechanism.

How it runs

How a website project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is ahead of Eastern Time, and the gap changes with daylight saving time. The shared board keeps feedback and decisions visible across that gap.

  1. 01

    Discover

Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We learn your goals and agree the scope with you.

  2. 02

    Plan

We prepare wireframes before the visual design. Your feedback at this stage should focus on page content and its order; colours come later.

  3. 03

    Build and test

We build with clean code or an editable CMS and test on real devices and browsers. Review the pages as the work takes shape.

  4. 04

    Check

Before launch, proofread each page, submit every form and confirm who receives its messages. That catches small errors visitors would otherwise see.

  5. 05

    Launch and care

We handle domain, email, analytics and search setup, followed by ongoing support. You take part in the handover so you know how the site is set up.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Decide early who will gather and write the content; descriptions, bios, case studies and photos often take longer to collect than design approval.

  • Brand filesBring your vector logo, colours and fonts, or note what still needs creating.
  • ServicesList and rank what you want to feature, so the main pages reflect your priorities.
  • ExamplesBring sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
  • PhotosGather images of your team, premises and finished work.
  • ProofCollect case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and relevant credentials.
  • AccessFind the logins for your domain, hosting, email and search tools, or identify who holds them.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timing of your website

The work changes with the material you already have and the functions the site needs.

  • Content

Copy and photos ready to publish reduce the work; writing, photography or translation added to the scope increase it.

  • Migration

Moving old blog posts, news archives and downloadable files adds transfer and checking work.

  • Features

Booking, calculators, member logins, several languages and CRM connections each add design, build and testing work.

  • Brand

An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Cambridge

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to have a website built?

There is no fixed price. A custom design takes a different amount of work from adapting a template, and a separate content editor adds hosting and maintenance work. Preparing existing brand assets for the web also affects the scope. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

Is it still worth investing in a business website?

A website gives you a place to explain your services and measure enquiries. Set up analytics to track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks, then check which pages visitors started from. Clear service pages are also easier for visitors to scan and for your team to keep current.

What is included in the website build?

The build includes an editor, search setup and launch handover. Your team gets an editor for pages, news, projects and careers; we set up metadata, structured data and sitemaps, as well as analytics and Search Console. We also walk your team through the setup at handover.

Will I own the website after launch?

Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Before handover, decide who will update news, projects and job posts so the site stays current after launch. Give that person responsibility for reviewing those sections as well as publishing new material.

How should I review the design before approving it?

Review each page on a phone as well as a desktop. Use real headings and paragraphs during design, because placeholder text can hide layout problems that appear when your actual content is added. We prepare page designs for both screen sizes and refine them with your feedback.
