Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with who will update the site and how often. WordPress suits a team that publishes regularly and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its choice of plugins gives you flexibility, though someone will need to keep them and the platform updated for security. An adapted template can suit a straightforward brief, provided the layout is reworked around your actual content.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site that an owner wants to manage alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding the site. That trade-off is worth considering before you put substantial content into a builder.
A custom front end paired with a separate content editor suits a site that needs speed and frequent editing, although there are more moving parts to host and maintain. We recommend WordPress or a custom Next.js site after learning how your team works, so the choice follows your editing needs.
Market
What website visitors in Canada expect
Buyers need to find enough detail to take the next step. For a manufacturer or B2B supplier, that can mean product capabilities, certifications, downloadable specifications and a quote form that asks for useful details. For a clinic, clear services, practitioner profiles, opening hours and a phone-friendly booking or call option give visitors a practical route to an appointment.
If you publish commercial website content for Quebec, Article 52 of the Charter of the French language requires it in French. We plan French pages into the sitemap and build, with ownership of the translations agreed in the scope. If you want a .ca domain, check that the registrant meets the Canadian Presence Requirements before registering it.
Rules
What a website project in Canada has to handle
PIPEDA governs how private-sector organisations collect, use and disclose personal information in commercial activity; Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec have substantially similar private-sector laws. For enquiry forms, we set up the fields and privacy information around the information you collect and how you use it.
For commercial electronic messages, CASL requires consent, sender identification with a current mailing address and an unsubscribe mechanism. We set up a consent field and the sender and unsubscribe details for your mailing process.
In Ontario, AODA applies website accessibility requirements to businesses and non-profits with 50 or more employees. Where it applies, we plan and test the public site against WCAG 2.0 Level AA, subject to the stated exceptions for live captions and pre-recorded audio descriptions.
How it runs
How a website design and development project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Canada, with the gap varying by location and season, so the shared board gives you a place to review progress and leave feedback across the working day.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what you want visitors to do. We use those answers to shape the sitemap and agree the scope with you.
- 02
Plan
We prepare wireframes before the visual design. You review what belongs on each page and its order, so content priorities are settled before feedback turns to colours.
- 03
Design and build
We refine desktop and mobile page designs with your feedback, then build the site or an editable CMS and test it on real devices and browsers.
- 04
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover. Bring the people who will maintain the site to that walkthrough.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Examples of websites you like and dislike are useful when you include a short reason for each choice.
- Brand filesYour logo in SVG, AI or EPS, plus colours and fonts, or a note that these still need creating.
- PrioritiesA ranked list of the services or products you want to feature.
- Account accessLogin details for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of the person who holds them.
- PhotographyReal images of your team, premises and finished work; book a photo shoot ahead if you need one.
- Enquiry goalDecide if you want quote requests, applications or calls, and who will handle each.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of website design and development
The scope determines how much design, build and checking work is involved.
Page templates
Distinct layouts take more design and build effort than pages that share a template, even when the shared-template site has more pages.
Features
Calculators, booking, member logins, multiple languages and CRM connections each add work to design, build and test.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; adding copywriting, photography or translation expands it.
Migration
Blog posts, news archives and downloadable files from an old site need moving and checking, with more content adding more work.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building your website
Designing with placeholder copy
Bring real headings and paragraphs into the layouts early, since their length can change how a page fits.
Choosing the platform first
Decide who will update the site and how often before settling on the editing system.
Reviewing only on a large screen
Check every page on a phone, including the content and the route to contact you.
Leaving search checks until after launch
Check page titles, the sitemap and any development indexing block before the site goes live.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Canada
Page updated 5 November 2026
Is website development still worth paying for?
A website is worth considering when you need a clear route from a visitor’s question to an enquiry. Decide who receives each form submission, what the confirmation says and which contact buttons appear on mobile. Building page titles, headings and an XML sitemap into the work also takes less effort than adding them as fixes later.
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The work is shaped by how specific the design needs to be, how much content must be gathered, and whether the site needs a separate editor and front end with more to maintain. We send you a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Should we use WordPress or Next.js?
Choose based on how your team will work with the site. WordPress suits frequent editing by your own team. A custom Next.js site is faster and more secure, and it can still include an editor. We will discuss your publishing needs before recommending an approach.
What is included in the design work?
We plan the sitemap and page designs for desktop and mobile, and refine them with your feedback. We can also build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, preparing brand assets for the web where needed. Your team gets an editor for pages, news, projects and careers.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep the ownership details accessible to your business so that you have control of those assets after handover and can make decisions about the site without being tied to its original builder.
What happens after the site launches?
We offer ongoing support after launch. Your team should also decide who will keep news, project and job posts current. In analytics, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages visitors started from to see how the site is generating enquiries.
