Choosing
Should you choose WordPress, a custom site or a website builder?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. It offers a large choice of plugins, though someone needs to keep it updated for security. Before choosing it, consider who will publish content and who will take responsibility for those updates.
A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a company that wants fast pages, tight security and a design without template limits. The trade-off is that you should be happy to involve a developer when the site needs structural changes. Think about the changes your team expects to make, not only the pages you need at launch.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone. You have less control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. When we discuss the project, we look at how your team works before recommending WordPress or a custom site.
Local
What Ontario businesses need from a website
Manufacturing is a principal industry in Ontario. If you supply other businesses, give buyers capability or product pages, certifications and downloadable specifications. Your quote form should ask for enough detail for you to respond properly, so a prospective customer knows what to send before they get in touch.
Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area are commercial and financial centres. A law, accounting or consulting practice there needs clear pages for its services and partners, with credentials a buyer can check before calling.
Ottawa has a major technology park. For a startup launching a product or raising money, a plain explanation of the product and a way to join a waitlist or book a demo give visitors a clear next step.
Rules
What a website project in Canada has to handle
Accessibility belongs in the brief. Under Ontario's accessibility requirements, businesses and non-profits with 50 or more employees must make covered public websites and web content meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with exceptions for live captions and pre-recorded audio descriptions. We agree an accessibility target with you, then design desktop and mobile pages around it and refine those designs with your feedback before the build.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Eastern Time, which moves 1 hour closer during daylight saving time. The shared board gives us a place to keep feedback and project work moving between calls.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the people who will make decisions about the site into that discussion.
- 02
Structure
We use wireframes to decide what goes on each page and in what order. Review the content and priorities at this stage; colours come later.
- 03
Design
We create the sitemap and page designs for desktop and mobile. You review them and give feedback so we can refine the screens before the build.
- 04
Build
We develop the site in clean, fast code or use a content management system your team can edit. We test the work on real devices and browsers.
- 05
Check
You proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who should receive its messages. This is the chance to catch small errors before visitors see them.
- 06
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the site.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather what you have, and make a note of anything still missing.
- Your goalDecide whether you want quote requests, job applications or calls, and who handles each enquiry.
- Brand filesBring a vector logo, brand colours and fonts, or note that they still need creating.
- Account accessFind the logins for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or identify who holds them.
- PhotosGather images of your team, premises and finished work; book a photo shoot ahead if needed.
- Proof of workCollect case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships.
- Site examplesList sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of a website project
The work involved depends on the decisions and materials in your brief.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce design effort compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.
Content preparation
Service descriptions, team bios, case studies and photos need gathering. Decide early who will write or supply each item.
Editing setup
A custom front end paired with a separate editor supports heavy editing and speed, but adds parts to host and maintain.
Design approach
A custom design fits specific brand, content or audience needs. An adapted template can fit a simple site, but still needs reworking around your real content.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building your website
Using placeholder copy
Put real headings and paragraphs into the design early. Their length affects layouts that might otherwise look finished.
Reviewing only on a desktop
Check every page on a phone first, so you can assess the experience many visitors will use.
Copying every old page
Choose the pages your visitors need. A shorter site with clear service pages is easier to scan and maintain.
Leaving search setup until launch
Check page titles, the sitemap and any development indexing block before the site goes live.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Ontario
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include how many distinct page templates you need, features such as booking or a CRM connection, and how much content must move from an old site. Each adds design, build or checking work. Once we agree the scope, ask us for a quote.
Can a custom website still have an editor?
Yes. A custom Next.js site can include an editor, even when a developer handles structural changes. When comparing it with WordPress, consider how your team works and how much content it expects to edit. We use that understanding to recommend an option for your project.
What is included in the website build?
The build includes an editor your team can use for pages, news, projects and careers without training. We also set up contact and quote forms to reach the right inbox, along with WhatsApp and click-to-call. Decide who should receive each kind of enquiry before those routes are configured.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, the content and the code, with no lock-in. That gives your business control of the site's core assets after handover. Keep track of the people who hold access to those assets so your team can manage them as responsibilities change.
What should we manage after launch?
Assign someone to update news, projects and job posts, and review enquiries in analytics. You can track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages visitors started from. That gives you a practical way to review the site alongside keeping its content current.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We can build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Share the materials your team already uses when we discuss the site, so the page designs can work with those assets from the start.
