Choosing
Should you customise a theme or build your own?
An existing theme is a useful starting point when its layouts suit your catalogue. Customising it keeps the initial setup lighter and makes later theme updates simpler. A custom theme gives you more room to shape an unusual product catalogue and a distinct brand, although later layout changes need development work.
The store structure is another choice. One store can serve several countries through markets, with local-currency prices, translations and international domains. Separate stores suit you when countries need different catalogues or teams, or payouts in different currencies. A headless storefront suits content-led brands or unusual buying flows, but you give up the theme editor and some apps that add features through a theme may not work.
Checkout and payment choices need attention too. Shopify runs checkout; apps that change its information, shipping and payment steps are limited to Shopify Plus. Third-party gateways carry an extra Shopify transaction fee, so compare the total cost per order when choosing one. You talk directly to the people designing and building your store, and we discuss these trade-offs with you.
Local
What Vancouver businesses need from a store
Forestry and tourism are major industries in Vancouver. A forestry business selling products online may need dimensions or care instructions displayed in a consistent place on each product page. We use metafields for those details so the theme can show them in their own sections. For a tourism business starting online sales, staff can select products for collections manually or use conditions such as product type or tag to keep collections current.
Vancouver also has video game and animation sectors. A direct-to-consumer brand in either sector may need reviews or subscriptions connected to its store as its catalogue grows. We connect and test those integrations, including WhatsApp where it is part of the selling process.
Rules
What a Canadian Shopify store needs to handle
The GST or HST rate charged depends on the place of supply, such as where goods are delivered. We configure the store’s tax settings for the markets you sell in, using your delivery and tax requirements.
If you publish commercial content for Quebec, it needs to be in French. We set up French-language commercial pages for that market.
For commercial email, consent, sender identification and an unsubscribe mechanism need to be part of the setup. We include those fields and controls in the email sign-up and message flow.
How it runs
How a Shopify project runs with us
We are a studio in India and work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 12h30m ahead of British Columbia, so the shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and review progress across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You tell us what the store needs to do, and we agree the scope together.
- 02
Design
We prepare desktop and mobile page designs. You review them and give feedback before we write theme code.
- 03
Access
Your store stays in your account. You approve our collaborator access, choose its permissions and can remove them when needed.
- 04
Build
We work on an unpublished theme copy. You preview and approve it before publication, while the live store continues trading.
- 05
Launch
We connect the domain, remove the password, switch payments to live and import redirects. We also place a real test order and refund it.

Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of Shopify development
The scope determines the work involved in design, setup and testing.
Theme route
Adjusting an existing theme takes less work than designing and building a custom one.
Catalogue structure
Bundles, made-to-order choices and detailed specifications add setup and theme work.
Integrations and markets
Stock and price synchronisation, translations and market-specific shipping add configuration and testing.
Custom business logic
Custom functions need development and testing; the type of app also affects the Shopify plan required.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with Shopify development
Inconsistent product data
Agree how staff will use tags, product types and vendors. Automated collections and filters read these fields, so inconsistent entries can hide products or put them in the wrong place.
Unnecessary apps
Check what the theme already does before installing another app. Apps can add scripts and subscriptions; check theme files for leftover code after removal.
Placeholder content
Replace demo content, placeholder policies and default notification wording before launch.

How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer?
There is no fixed price for every store. A custom theme, integrations and migration work are among the choices that change the scope. We discuss what you need to build and connect before agreeing the work, so the quote can reflect your catalogue and requirements.
Can I hire someone to build my Shopify store?
Yes. We can build a store for you, including a move from WooCommerce, Magento or another platform. Migration includes products, customers and orders, with redirects in place. The build also includes clean product URLs, structured data and fast pages from launch.
How do I handle an extra product choice such as engraving?
An extra choice beyond Shopify’s standard product options needs theme work or an app. Shopify allows up to three options per product, such as size, colour and material. For engraving text or a custom length as a fourth choice, the theme can use line item properties.
Will I own the store after the build?
You own your domain, content and code. That gives you control over those parts of the store without being locked to the team that built it. Keep ownership and access arrangements clear when you choose who will build or maintain your store.
Can you support the store after launch?
Yes. Ongoing support follows launch from the same people who designed and built your store. You should also review installed apps, staff accounts and collaborator access from time to time, removing access and tools that are no longer used.
Will my team be able to run the store?
Yes. We train your team to manage orders, products and discounts independently. After launch, you can also use Shopify reports to review conversion, cart abandonment, average order value and returning customers, and use Search Console to check organic clicks and product-page indexing.
