Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
For an app centred on accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content, cross-platform development is a practical place to start. React Native and Flutter share most of their code between iOS and Android, so you have a shared codebase to work on across both platforms. The choice also affects who can contribute and how closely the screens follow each platform's interface.
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders the interface components of each platform. Web developers can contribute, and an app alongside a React website can share some logic with it. Flutter uses Dart and draws its own interface; it suits a heavily branded design when you want screens to look identical across platforms and are ready to work in Dart.
We usually build with React Native, using native modules when a particular feature needs them. If your app needs deep device features, we choose native development. We use that distinction to help you decide which approach fits the work your app has to do.
Local
What Vancouver businesses need from an app
Vancouver's forestry industry includes field work where an app needs to capture forms, photos, signatures and job locations. For a field team, we build flows that let staff record work away from the office and sync it when signal returns.
For appointment businesses serving Vancouver's tourism sector, a useful app can bring bookings, reminders and payments into the same flow, with a staff view of the day's schedule. We set up a notification sending service, rules for who gets each reminder and in-app controls for notification categories.
Vancouver's software sector also includes businesses whose customers already use a web platform. When customers return frequently, an app can give them access to the same accounts and data through the existing backend.
Rules
What an app project in Canada has to handle
Federal privacy rules cover how private-sector organisations collect, use and disclose personal information in commercial activity; British Columbia has its own substantially similar private-sector privacy law. For your build, we identify the information the app needs and set up the account flows around those details. The way you use and disclose that information also needs to be reflected in your privacy policy.
Payment setup follows what you sell. For digital content or subscriptions used inside the app, we set up the stores' in-app purchasing. Physical goods and services used outside the app need a different payment method; Stripe lists Canada as a country where businesses can sign up to accept payments.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 12h30m ahead of British Columbia, so the shared board gives you a place to review work and leave feedback across the time difference.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks you want people to complete in the app; these give the discussion a practical starting point.
- 02
Design
We design the iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff: changing a screen at this stage is far cheaper than changing it after the build.
- 03
Build
We write the code and test the work on real devices and browsers. You review the progress and give feedback as the agreed screens and flows take shape.
- 04
Launch
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain access to those accounts while we prepare the app for release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical details will give the first discussion a useful focus.
- List the systems the app must connect to, such as your website, booking software or payment provider. Note which have an API and who holds admin access.
- Check your Google Play account type. New personal accounts need a closed test before production release.
- If the app has a login, plan a working demo account and live backend for Apple submission.
- Prepare a privacy policy that matches the information the app collects; Apple requires links in the app and its store listing.
- Put your repository, developer accounts and signing access in your business's name so the app is easier to move later.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of app development
The work changes with the flows, systems and responsibilities you include in the app.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they use the same backend.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup and testing, as well as work to handle failures.
User-generated content
Posts need moderation tools, including filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details.
Backend and admin tools
An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work. Building both from scratch can be as large a task as building the app.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping your website in an app shell
Plan useful app features beyond the existing site. Apple expects more than a repackaged website.
Requiring sign-up before people see value
Let people use the app without logging in when it has no significant account-based features.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without updating privacy answers: Include the data collected by third-party SDKs in Google Play's Data safety form.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Vancouver
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. The work is shaped by features such as live tracking, payments and offline editing. Live tracking needs persistent connections; offline editing also needs syncing and conflict handling when a connection returns. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
How should I choose an app development company?
Ask how the team will build and measure the main task your users need to complete. For a consumer or marketplace app, check its approach to covering both stores and learning whether people return. Analytics and crash reporting in the first release show screen use, drop-off and device crashes.
Can my app share data with my website?
Yes. We can build a single backend for your app, website and admin tools, so customer accounts and data live in one place. That gives you a clear way to plan the app alongside a website and the tools your staff use to manage it.
Does the app need an account deletion feature?
If people can create an account, plan an in-app path to delete it. Apple requires people to be able to start deletion inside the app; deactivation alone is not enough. Google Play also requires deletion of associated data and a web link where people can request deletion.
Will I own the app after it is built?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That ownership gives you control over those assets after the build. We also handle store listings and submission under your own developer accounts, so the release is connected to accounts you hold.
What happens after the app launches?
Launch is followed by ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan regular maintenance releases: Google Play requires a recent Android API level. To assess releases, look at how many people return, where they leave the main task and the crash-free rate.
