Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?
For an app built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical place to start. We use React Native to share a codebase across iOS and Android, adding native modules when the app needs them. It uses each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can also be shared with a React web app.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design where you want screens to look identical across both platforms. Your team would need to work with Dart. That choice affects who maintains the product as well as how its screens are built.
Native development fits an app with deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. The trade-off is separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain. We usually recommend React Native for apps that do not need that depth, and choose native when the device requirements call for it.
Local
What Liverpool organisations need from an app
Liverpool’s hospitality sector includes businesses that serve repeat customers. A restaurant app can make reordering straightforward, keep payment details for returning customers and offer loyalty features alongside a fast checkout. A business whose customers already use its web platform can also reuse their accounts and data in an app.
Shipping and freight businesses with offices in Liverpool can give delivery or inspection teams forms that work without a signal. Photos, signatures and job locations can then sync back to the office when connectivity returns.
Liverpool has universities as well as healthcare organisations. Where an organisation manages appointments, an app can bring bookings, reminders and payments together, with a separate view of the day’s schedule for staff.
Rules
What a UK app project needs to handle
If your project includes a customer website, UK Equality Act guidance calls for reasonable adjustments so disabled people can use it. We include accessible website pages in the scope. For an app that lets people create accounts, we also set up an in-app route to delete the account and its associated data, plus a website link for deletion requests. Google Play requires both routes. Agreeing the website work alongside the app gives each route a place in the build.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time. Shared boards keep decisions and feedback visible across that difference.
- 01
Scope
We map the phone app, the backend and the admin panel. You tell us what staff need to do, such as finding customers or issuing refunds, so those tasks have a place in the build.
- 02
Design
We design iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You review the flows with the people who understand how the service works.
- 03
Prototype
You put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps us change screens while changes are cheaper than they would be after the build.
- 04
Build and test
We share test builds through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You use the app on your own phone and give feedback from real use.
- 05
Submit
We handle store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts while we take the app through the release process.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A short preparation list makes the first conversation more useful.
- List the tasks users must complete in the first release, in the order they would do them.
- Identify the website, booking system, CRM or payment provider the app must connect to; note the API and admin access for each.
- Prepare a privacy policy that reflects what the app collects, for the app and its Apple store listing.
- Check the closed-testing requirement for a new personal Google Play developer account and identify potential testers.
- If people can create accounts, plan where they will start deleting them inside the app. Apple does not accept deactivation alone.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The work grows with the flows and systems your app needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Offline editing
Displaying previously loaded data is a smaller task than saving edits offline and resolving conflicts when they sync.
Notifications
A sending service, recipient rules and settings for notification categories all need to be set up.
User content
Reporting, filtering and blocking features add work when people can post material in the app.
Checkout
Google Play billing rules differ for digital goods and physical goods, so what you sell shapes the payment setup.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with an app
Wrapping your website in an app shell
Plan a useful app experience beyond the existing site; Apple’s guidelines say a repackaged website risks rejection.
Leaving access with an agency
Keep developer accounts, signing access and the code repository in your business’s name so the app can move later.
Adding tracking without updating privacy answers
Check what each analytics or advertising SDK collects and include it in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Liverpool
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Live tracking or chat adds backend work, while custom animation, multiple languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens. An existing backend with a documented API can reduce the work compared with building the backend and admin panel from scratch. Agree the scope with us to request a quote.
Which app development company should I choose?
Choose a company that gives you ownership and can discuss how the app will be measured after release. With us, you own your domain, content and code without lock-in. Useful measures include how often people return, where they leave the main task and the crash-free rate.
Can my app share data with my website?
Yes. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, so accounts and data live in one place. If your product also needs in-app purchases or subscriptions, we set those up for both stores as part of the app work.
Could a web app be enough for my idea?
A progressive web app can suit a staff tool and skips store review. It does not appear in app stores unless packaged for them, though, and on iPhone it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to their Home Screen. Those limits are worth checking against how staff will use it.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and further features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, so regular maintenance releases belong in the plan. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air; native changes and new permissions still need a store release.
What do we need ready for app review?
For an app with a login, Apple expects a working demo account and a live backend when you submit. Make those available for review and leave room in your launch plan for fixes and resubmission: incomplete or crashing submissions can be rejected.
