Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
Cross-platform development shares most of the code between iOS and Android. It fits apps built around accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments and content. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s interface components; web developers can contribute, and some logic can be shared with a React website.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design where you want screens to look identical across platforms. Your team needs to be willing to work in Dart.
Native development uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch, but leaves you with separate codebases to maintain. We usually choose React Native and add native modules where needed; we go fully native when the app needs deep device features.
Local
What Gold Coast businesses need from an app
Construction is a strength of the local economy. For inspection and maintenance teams, an app needs job forms, photos, signatures and location details that staff can capture in the field and sync to the office when signal returns.
Food businesses are part of the city’s industrial base. A restaurant serving repeat customers might need reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a fast checkout and notifications sent at a useful time.
Tourism is the region’s biggest industry. A startup building a consumer or marketplace product for that audience needs coverage on both app stores and analytics that show whether people return after installing. Agreeing what customers need to do in the app helps define the first release.
Rules
What an app project in Australia has to handle
Australian guidelines on equal access to digital goods and services recommend WCAG 2.2 at Level AA as a minimum. We set up the screen designs and accessibility checks against that standard, so access is considered while the interface is being designed.
The Australian rule removing surcharges applies to debit, prepaid and credit card payments on the eftpos, Mastercard and Visa networks. Where your app takes those payments, we set up the checkout without those surcharges.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 4h30m behind Brisbane, and Queensland does not change its clocks. The shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible across the difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us agree the scope before design starts.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code.
- 03
Try the prototype
Put it in front of a few customers or staff and bring their feedback back to us. Changing screens at this stage costs less than changing them after build.
- 04
Test on your phone
During development, you receive test builds through TestFlight on iPhone and Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks on Android.
- 05
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the details you have, including access to any systems the app needs to use.
- Developer accountsRegister Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number, so start that process early.
- Closed testingIf you have a new personal Google Play developer account, plan for a closed test before production release.
- System accessList your website, CRM, booking or ERP software and payment provider. Note which have APIs and who holds admin access.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy matching the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and inside the app.
- Demo loginIf your app has a login, have a working demo account and live backend ready for Apple’s submission review.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of an app?
The amount of design, build and testing work changes with the scope you choose.
User types
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, map, CRM, booking system or connected device needs setup, testing and failure handling.
Interface
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Posts and other contributions need filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Gold Coast
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Offline editing and later syncing, notification rules and settings, and in-app purchases or subscriptions all change the work involved. Showing previously loaded data offline is a smaller task than resolving conflicts between records edited without a connection. Ask for a quote once the scope is agreed.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a company that can explain what the app will let customers do and how people will reach that value. Ask how it handles sign-up and what the app offers beyond your website. Apple’s guidelines discourage unnecessary login requirements and warn against repackaged websites offered as apps.
What is included behind the app screens?
An app commonly needs a backend for accounts and data, plus an admin panel for staff. That panel can cover tasks such as editing content, looking up customers, issuing refunds and blocking abusive accounts. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools.
Will I own the app and its code?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. Accounts held by a freelancer or agency can make the app harder to move if you change who maintains it.
What support does the app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air; native code changes, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release. Track returning users, task drop-off and crash-free rate as you assess releases.
