Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?
React Native is our usual choice for apps on iOS and Android. It shares a codebase while rendering each platform’s own interface components. Some logic can also be shared with a React web app, and web developers can contribute to the project. We help you choose the approach as we agree what the app needs to do.
Native development suits an app that depends on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs to look identical across platforms.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen.
Local
What Geelong organisations need from an app
Healthcare and advanced manufacturing are growing areas in Geelong. A clinic needs a booking flow, reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule. A manufacturing business with inspection teams may need job forms that work offline, with photos, signatures and location details that sync to the office when signal returns.
For retailers around Westfield Geelong and Market Square, an app for repeat customers needs a quick route back to the items they buy. Reordering, loyalty and saved payment details give the checkout a purpose; notification timing needs thought so a message supports the next order.
Rules
What an app project in Australia has to handle
Australian guidance on equal access to digital services recommends WCAG 2.2 Level AA as a minimum. We set that as the accessibility target for the app’s screen designs and include checks against it in the build.
Card payment surcharges on the eftpos, Mastercard and Visa networks were removed from 1 October 2026. If your app takes those debit, prepaid or credit card payments, we set up the checkout without adding a surcharge to them.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 4h30m behind Melbourne, or 5h30m behind during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us decide what belongs in the agreed scope before design starts.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android. You review the flows and give feedback while changes are still being made before code is written.
- 03
Test
We send builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You can try the app in use and tell us what needs attention.
- 04
Prepare for review
If the app has a login, we need a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s submission. Leave room for fixes and resubmission.
- 05
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring these details to the first conversation.
- List what users must do in the first release, in the order they would do it.
- Note the website, CRM, booking system or payment provider involved, whether each has an API and who holds admin access.
- Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- Prepare a privacy policy that reflects what the app collects, for its listing and an in-app link.
- Identify any customer accounts and data on your website that the app should share.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing of app development
The scope determines the work to design, build and test.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup, testing and handling for failures.
User-generated content
Reporting, blocking, filtering and published contact details add moderation features to the build.
Notifications
A sending service needs rules for recipients and timing, plus settings for people to switch categories off.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Geelong
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Live tracking or chat adds persistent connections and backend work, while custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens. We agree the scope with you so those choices are clear before the build.
How do I choose an app development company?
Look for a team that challenges the first feature list and explains what people will do in the app. A simple wrapper around an existing website risks Apple rejecting it. Also consider letting people explore before signing up when the app has no significant account-based features.
What is included behind the app screens?
An app commonly needs a backend for accounts and data, plus an admin panel where staff can manage content, look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts. Analytics and crash reporting also belong in the first release, so you can see screen usage, drop-offs and device crashes.
Will I own the app code?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep a record of the analytics and advertising tools used in the app too: adding an SDK without updating the store privacy answers can create a mismatch, and Google Play’s Data safety form must cover third-party SDK data collection.
What happens after the app launches?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan regular maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. After release, review returning users, drop-offs in the main task and the crash-free rate.
