Mobile app development company in Edmonton
You get a mobile app built around the tasks your customers or staff need to complete. For your Edmonton business, we design iOS and Android screens, build the accounts and data behind them, and set up push notifications where they fit. We’re MSH Technologies, a studio in India, and we work with you remotely from the first conversation through to launch.

Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?
For an app centred on accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical option. We use React Native to share a codebase across iOS and Android, adding native modules where the app needs them. That gives you both platforms without maintaining a separate codebase for each.
A native build fits apps that depend on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate Swift and Kotlin codebases. A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool: it avoids store review, although it will not appear in the stores unless packaged for them, and iPhone notification requests only work after it has been added to the Home Screen.
Your existing web technology can influence the choice too. React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript, renders each platform’s own interface components and can share some logic with a React web app. Bring us the tasks and device features you need; we’ll agree the scope with you before design starts.
Local
What Edmonton organisations need from an app
Edmonton is an economic centre for northern and central Alberta and the oil and gas industry. A business managing accounts or records through an app also needs the systems behind the screens: a backend for its data and an admin panel where staff can look up customers or manage accounts without calling a developer.
Financial institutions in Edmonton that already have a web platform might consider an app when customers use their service frequently. Reusing the same accounts, data and backend gives customers continuity between the website and app, while keeping those systems connected to the service staff already manage.
Rules
What an app project in Canada has to handle
Alberta has its own private-sector privacy law, while federal rules also govern personal information in commercial activity. For your build, we set up a link to your privacy policy in the app and its store listing. Have that policy match the information the app actually collects.
For payments, the purchase determines the checkout. We set up in-app purchases and subscriptions for digital content or features used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment route. Stripe lists Canada as a country where businesses can sign up to accept payments.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 11h30m ahead of Alberta, so the shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and keep track of decisions across the time difference.
- 01
Design
We refine the iOS and Android screens with your feedback before writing code. You can review the flows against the tasks you agreed for the app.
- 02
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback gives us a chance to change screens before they are built, when changes cost less.
- 03
Test
We send test builds to your own phone through TestFlight or the Google Play testing tracks. Use the app for real tasks and tell us where the flow needs attention.
- 04
Launch
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You keep the accounts in your business’s control as the app goes through release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the details you have; they help us agree what belongs in the first release.
- List the user tasks in the order people need to complete them.
- Note the website, CRM, booking system, ERP or payment provider the app needs to connect to, along with API and admin-access details.
- For an app with a login, prepare for store submission with a working demo account and a live backend.
- Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name.
- Consider what people can use before signing up; apps without significant account-based features should allow use without a login.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of an app
The scope determines the work involved in building, testing and maintaining your app.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, CRM, booking system or hardware connection needs setup, testing and failure handling.
Interface requirements
Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Real-time features
Live tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than data loaded on request.
Existing systems
A backend with a documented API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as substantial as the app.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Wrapping the website
Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Plan useful app tasks before putting an existing website inside an app shell.
Asking for notification permission too early
Explain the benefit at a relevant moment, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user permits them.
Leaving release health unmeasured
Include analytics and crash reporting in the first release, so you can see where people stop and which devices crash.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Edmonton
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Work grows when people need to create and edit records offline with later syncing, or when user-generated content needs filtering, reporting and blocking tools. The scope of those features determines the effort. Once we agree the scope, we can prepare a quote.
How should I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that can explain the build and how you will judge it after release. Ask how you will see retention, where people drop out of the main task and whether a release improved or reduced the crash-free rate. Those measures give you more useful feedback than download counts alone.
What is included in the app build?
The work can include a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools. If people can create accounts, account deletion also needs a route inside the app. Google Play additionally requires a web link for deletion requests, while Apple does not accept deactivation alone as account deletion.
Will I own the app code and content?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control of those assets if your needs change after launch. Discuss the accounts and access used for the project as part of agreeing how the work will be handed over.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for maintenance releases. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, and outdated apps can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air, but native code changes, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release.
Do you submit the app to the stores?
Yes. We handle listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Account type affects preparation: new personal Google Play developer accounts must complete a closed test before production release. Allow for that requirement when planning how you will get the app into users’ hands.
