What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform or native app?

For an app built around bookings, forms, payments or content, a cross-platform build is often a practical choice. We use React Native to share a codebase across iOS and Android, with native modules where needed. It uses each platform’s own interface components, and some logic can be shared with a React website.

A native build suits an app that depends on deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. It gives you access to new platform features at launch, but leaves you with separate Swift and Kotlin codebases to build and maintain. That choice adds work on both platforms, so the device features need to justify it.

A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It avoids store review, but does not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to their Home Screen. If store discovery or notifications are part of your plan, include those constraints in the decision.

Local

What Calgary businesses need from an app

Calgary’s retail and distribution activity creates different app needs. A shop serving repeat customers might need reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a quick checkout and notifications timed to an order. A distribution business needs to consider what staff must see and record while away from the office, where a signal is not always available.

Calgary also has health and wellness businesses alongside transportation and logistics organisations. For a clinic or gym, we would plan booking, reminders and payments around a staff view of the day’s schedule. That gives you a clear set of screens to discuss: what a customer books, what staff see and where a payment fits.

Rules

What an app in Canada has to handle

Alberta has its own private-sector privacy law, while federal rules address the collection, use and disclosure of personal information in commercial activity. We plan the information your app collects and set up links to a matching privacy policy inside the app and in its Apple store listing.

Payment choice affects checkout. Stripe is available to businesses in Canada, and we set up payments and subscriptions as part of the build. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital features and subscriptions used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment route, such as a card gateway.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is 11h30m ahead of Alberta, so the board gives you a place to leave decisions and feedback for the team to pick up across the time difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the tasks users need to complete so the first release has a clear boundary.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows as a user would, from the opening screen through the task they came to complete.

  3. 03

    Try the prototype

Put the clickable design in front of customers or staff and watch where they hesitate. Screen changes cost less at this stage than after the build.

  4. 04

    Test the build

You get versions on your own phone through TestFlight or the Google Play testing tracks. Use them for real tasks and send us the issues you find.

  5. 05

    Submit

We handle the listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. Keep access to those accounts available as we prepare the release.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Start with a short list of what users must do in the first release, ordered as they would do it.

  • Developer accountsStart registration in your company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • Existing systemsList your website, booking software, CRM and payment provider, including API and admin access details.
  • Account deletionIf users can create accounts, plan an in-app deletion route and the web request link Google Play requires.
  • Review accessFor an app with a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review.
  • Ownership accessKeep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The work grows with the features, connections and screens you ask us to build and test.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Integrations

A payment gateway, maps, booking system or scanner each adds setup, testing and work to handle failures.

  • Screen variations

Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across the affected screens.

  • User content

Posts and other user-generated material need moderation, including reporting and blocking tools and published contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid

  • Wrapping the website

Apple expects an app to offer more than a repackaged site. Plan useful app screens and tasks before submitting.

  • Demanding sign-up too soon

Let people see useful parts of the app before asking them to register, where the features do not require an account.

  • Requesting notifications immediately

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Calgary

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The main drivers include whether you need a new backend and staff admin panel, and whether people must edit records offline and sync them later. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work. Once we agree the scope, we can discuss a quote.

How do I choose an app development company?

Choose a developer who gives you ownership and publishes through your own accounts. We handle store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts, and you own your code, content and domain without lock-in. Ask who will hold that access before you agree to the work.

Can the app use the same backend as my website?

Yes. We can build a backend that serves your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. Bring details of the systems you already use, so we can discuss which information the app needs to read and update.

How will I know how people use the app?

We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release. Tools such as Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or Sentry can show which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash. You can use those details to decide what needs attention after release.

What support is available after launch?

We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level; an out-of-date app can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Plan maintenance releases as part of the work.

Does every fix need a new store release?

No. An over-the-air tool such as Expo EAS Update can send JavaScript and content fixes without a new store build. Changes to native code, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release, so the type of change determines how it reaches users.
