Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform or native app?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code across iOS and Android. That suits products built around accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content. React Native uses each platform’s own interface components, and web developers can contribute using JavaScript or TypeScript. Some logic can also be shared with a React website.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that should look identical on both platforms, provided your team is comfortable working in Dart. Native development fits apps that need deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. The trade-off is maintaining separate Swift and Kotlin codebases.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool when store distribution is not needed. It skips store review, although it needs packaging to appear in the stores. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. Start with the tasks and device features your users need, then choose the platform that supports them.
Local
What Central Coast organisations need from an app
Shops and restaurants in Gosford’s commercial hub can use an app to make repeat orders easier. A quick checkout, saved payment details and a loyalty feature give customers a practical reason to return, while well-timed notifications can prompt them to reorder.
For work around the hinterland’s farmland and wineries, field teams handling maintenance or inspections need forms that work without signal. Photos, signatures and location details can be attached to each job and synced back to the office when the connection returns.
The coastal towns’ resorts and holiday parks have bookings to manage. An app with reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule gives customers and staff a way to handle appointments and services.
Rules
What an app project in Australia has to handle
Health service providers are covered by the Privacy Act regardless of turnover. For an app collecting personal information, we set up links to a privacy policy in the app and its store listing; the policy needs to match the information the app actually collects.
Australian accessibility guidance recommends WCAG 2.2 at Level AA. We design the app screens with that target in view for iOS and Android, so accessibility is considered during screen design rather than left until the store submission.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 4h30m behind Sydney time, or 5h30m behind during daylight saving. The shared board gives us a place to keep the work visible between conversations.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You tell us what people need to accomplish, and we agree the scope together before moving into design.
- 02
Design
We prepare the iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before code is written. You can review the flows while changes are still on the drawing board.
- 03
Try the prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff and watch them use it. Screen changes at this stage cost less than changes after the build.
- 04
Connect the systems
Where your website and app need the same accounts and data, we build a shared backend that also serves your admin tools. You identify the systems the team needs to use.
- 05
Submit
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain those accounts while we manage the release work.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Give the app a purpose beyond wrapping your existing website; a repackaged site risks store rejection.
- List the tasks users must complete in the first release, in order.
- Note your website, CRM, booking software and payment provider, their APIs and who holds admin access.
- For a new personal Google Play account, plan the required closed test before production.
- If the app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review.
- If users can create accounts, plan an in-app deletion path and a web request link.
- List analytics and advertising SDKs so their data collection is covered in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
An app project usually includes the phone app, a backend and an admin panel; each needs its own scope.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even with a shared backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system, CRM or Bluetooth device adds setup, testing and failure handling.
Screen design
Custom animation, extra languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
If people post content, the app needs filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details for Apple’s requirements.
Questions

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include offline editing and conflict handling, the accounts and admin tools behind the app, and the targeted notifications you need. Showing previously loaded data offline takes less work than allowing edits and syncing them later. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
How should I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that lets you keep ownership and access. We leave your code, content and domain with you, without lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name too; accounts held by an agency or freelancer make the app harder to move later.
Can the app take payments and subscriptions?
Yes. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores. The payment route depends on what you sell: Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content, features and subscriptions used in the app, while physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method, such as a card gateway.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for maintenance releases and check how people use the app. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. For some JavaScript and content fixes, an over-the-air update is an option; native code changes and new permissions still need a store release. Retention and crash-free rate help you assess releases.
How do push notifications work?
Notifications need a sending service, rules for who receives each message and settings for users to switch off unwanted categories. We plan those pieces into the app. Ask for permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order; on Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
